MS Readathon is back

Throughout August we’re going on a magical quest filled with adventure and mystery for one incredible cause. We’re reading as many books as we can in August to raise funds for kids who have a parent living with multiple sclerosis. Money raised through MS Readathon will help fund vital support services, like special Family Camps.

These camps provide an opportunity for kids who have a parent affected by MS to learn more about MS, bond with other kids, and have fun with their families.

Thank you for supporting our MS Readathon adventure!

Please visit our school's fundraising page to register your participation.

Payment plans and different payment options

Do you ever find that Compass doesn’t cater for the payment option that would suit your family?  If this is the case, please contact us and let us know via a confidential email to kalinda.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

There are lots of different payment options available, but Compass limits us to offering one option to all families.  If paying for an event over several weeks, or in smaller payments, suits your circumstances better, we are happy to make this available to you.

For further information please feel free to contact the office on 9876 3289, or by email to kalinda.ps@education.vic.gov.au asking to speak to Jen or Melissa in Finance.

All finance and administration matters are strictly confidential, and we are happy to help in any way we can.

Authority for another person to pick up your child

Occasionally families will have the need for someone else to pick up their child.

For the safety of your child, please complete the attached letter, and contact the office so we can let staff be aware.

The form used is a template from the Department of Education, and will remain in the school archives. Primary School children are unable to leave the grounds, before 3.30 pm by themselves.

Changes to how we notify you of head bumps at school

It is a Department of Education requirement that we notify parents of any head bumps that occur during the school day, regardless of the severity of the injury.

For minor instances, in the past, we have phoned families with a courtesy call.  From this week until the end of term, we are trialling doing this notification by SMS.

You will only receive an SMS notification if the head bump appears insignificant in nature.

We will continue to call families for more severe injuries and illnesses, and if a child has further symptoms after a head knock. We hope that this small change will help us interrupt carers less, and help prevent the anxiety some people feel when the school’s number pops up on their phone.

Footy Maths Day is coming

Dear Kalinda Families,

It’s that time again! Footy Maths Day is here to celebrate all things mathematical and footy based. Whether or not your team made it to finals, whether or not your heart lies with a round ball or an oval or not at all, there is fun to be had on Footy Maths Day.

We invite all Kalinda kids and staff to wear their footy colours on the last day of term, Friday 15th September. Just as we have for the last few years, we ask that everyone include a number on their attire - such as a Guernsey number or one you add with electrical or masking tape or a piece of paper pinned on. This number is either a one or two-digit number. As one of our activities, we invite students to calculate the total sum of numbers for their class and then estimate the total sum for the school.

As is tradition, we will start with our supporter human graph on the basketball courts just after 9 a.m. Students will engage in both sporting and maths activities throughout the day culminating in the announcement of the grand total sum of Kalinda numbers and the closest estimates from each level, with prizes for students with the closest guesses.

Not an AFL supporter? You are welcome to represent your team from another code or competition. Soccer, rugby, netball, basketball… all welcome. Just add a number to your outfit.
