Tomodachi Project

ともだち プロジェクト

Our Semester One Tomodachi Project has now come to a conclusion and I would like to congratulate our fabulous year six students and members: Marcus, Alyssa, Charlye, Lazer and Mitchell! These students showed a huge commitment and effort in attending weekly and sometimes twice-weekly meetings to establish and grow positive and friendly relationships with students at our sister school in Lilyvale, Japan. This was on top of term three production practices, sports events and other activities in their busy school lives, so I really applaud their efforts.

During our meetings, I was most proud of our students who all grew in confidence to speak well in both English and Japanese. Our sessions were a lot of fun and provided a wonderful opportunity to share culture and language. Some of the topics discussed included; how to spell our names, what our hobbies are, introducing our family members and a school tour.

Now our Japanese friends are on their summer holiday break and they will be writing a letter or email to their year six pen pal shortly. From here onwards, we hope that our pen pals continue to communicate and build long-lasting connections into the future. Perhaps they will even meet each other one day, be it in Australia or Japan!

****Our Semester 2 Tomodachi Project will begin in late August! Look out for a future announcement regarding our Semester 2 Year six participants!***

Around the school

The grade 5 students have written a dialogue about ordering a meal at a hamburger shop in Japan.

Minori Sensei made some amazing props and everyone enjoyed using them to practise their Japanese dialogues.
