GENERAL NEWS

AND THE WINNER IS...

Congratulations to Mia Schumann-Gross on winning the Years 3-6 section of the Students as Authors Writing Competition. This is a wonderful achievement and we are incredibly proud of Mia! Please see a copy of her winning entry below.

NEWS FLASH!!!  WRITING FLOURISHES AT ST NICS FROM KINDER TO YEAR 6!!!

We are thrilled to share that writing continues to flourish and develop across all grades at St Nicholas. On any given day one can witness imagination pouring onto paper as teachers inspire, support, motivate and guide our students. A “Big Write” is the perfect opportunity for students to showcase their writing skills, and then later highlight, edit & uplevel their work. Thank you parents for continuing to take an interest in your child’s ‘Big Write’ topics by taking a few moments to chat at home with them about them.

Now, sit back and enjoy some clever excerpts of writing from our student authors below. And take a look at our gallery of snapshots from our learning spaces!!

Just off the Southern Coast  is an island. Clear, crystal waves crash onto the mystical beach sands. Both the sea and the rivers are as clear as diamonds. But crouching in the shrubs, a creature locks eyes with its next victim, then sprints towards its prey. The casualty cowers in fear, waiting for its demise.          Oscar Yr 6

The green troll was scary and fearless and mighty with all his strength.

Whoosh! Curious George zooms past people and cars. He finally arrives at a dark cave. He is scared, but he is brave! He shivers as he enters the cave. Then Boom! A wizard comes from no-where. He chuckles at George, “Be my servant or I will turn you into stone!”

“3,2,1, GO!” The crowd starts screaming as the rocket launches high into the night sky. As the onlookers squeal with delight, the rocket plunges down, deep into the underwater world below!       Klara and Eleanor Yr 5

Breaking News!! You’ll never believe what happened to Noah Dreary, the type of boy who never stopped complaining. His head fell off and rolled into the lake!  Flynn Yr 3

“Noooo”! screams the miniscule bee. The poor creature is chased by the grubby-fingered toddler, yielding his brothers cricket bat!!The bee takes one last, high pitched buzzing breath, and then his final black-out occurs.              Maddy Yr 5

One dark, misty night I went into my backyard and saw something very mysterious!!!

How to make a potion so I can talk to animals. I need to gather all the ingredients before I blend them. I need: ancient rose petals, unicorn tears and rainbow sunlight.                                                                                                                                                    Lila Yr 2

How to make a unicorn potion. Boil all the ingredients in a large cauldron over a hot fire. One cup of shimmery water, one magic unicorn horn, a handful of beautiful rosemary leaf, small butterfly wings and a tiny spoonful of golden glitter.    Layla  Yr 2

Woosh went Little Red Riding Hood as her cape flew. She was going to her Grandma’s house in the forest.                        Addyson, Kinder

In the park there is a dog, like a fierce dragon that flies through the air as fast as a lion. The swings are green rockets that lift me to the moon. The monkey bars are like jungle vines that I swing on to cross the pit of lava.              Lily Yr 3

CSO STAGE 3 DEBATING COMPETITION

Over the past few weeks our debating teams have been busily preparing for the second round of debates in the CSO Stage 3 Debating Competition.

Both teams were the negative teams in the debate "That we should stop selling bottled water."

Ariel Pannan, Ivy Thomas, Georgie O'Halloran and Irvan Kaur versed St Xavier's Gunnedah over zoom last week. They were very convincing and were awarded the win! Congratulations girls!

Today, Lucinda Crockett, Klara Bunnemeyer, Lacey Hutton and Eve Sedon travelled to St Edward's to hold a 'live' debate. Unfortunately we were not declared the winner, however the girls all put up very strong arguments and spoke well.

We will hold our third round of debates in Week 8.
