Principal's Panorama

Zoe Nugent

Welcome back to school and into Term 3.

St Mary of the Angels staff, had a huge Term 2 break.

We spent time in converting;

  • the Parochial Hall into a dual learning and gathering place (with our new furniture having now arrived too),
  • old bell structure into different play and eating routine
  • GLA 3/4 into the new learning space for Year 5/6
  • and the previous Library into a professional learning space for staff and visiting specialists.

We have also welcomed our two new staff Miss Outridge on Stage 3 and Miss Mayes who is our current RFF educator.  It has been a busy first couple of weeks, but students are more eager than ever to get into their classrooms with their peers and educators.  This may be why we are seeing so many children coming to school who are 'under the weather'.

This has led to a greater number of staff and students getting sick and with our Stage 2 class falling to less than half of their normal number.  Please support your school community by keeping your child at home under they are fully recovered.  Not only for the sake of our school families health but also the ongoing education of the class.  If staff contract illness it is incredibly difficult to find casual staff, this affects all of the students in their learning and of course connection with their educator.

Sportsmanship

During the running of our Athletics Carnival on Friday, I was again impressed with the wonderful sportsmanship displayed across all year levels.

Staff were on the lookout all day for acts of sportsmanship, which then accumulated to students 'House Points', but we have had a good suggestion from a couple of parents for a "Spectators Choice/Notice" Award. Similar to the "Angel's Award' we have at school that recognises the values and connections we have at SMOTA.  I feel this is a brilliant idea, for those students who may not achieve the fastest lap or longest throw, but put their heart and soul into their team and their sporting effort.  As a staff, we will come up with how to do this in the most equitable and time efficient way and have this running at next year's carnivals.

In the meantime, have a look through the photos of the Athletics Carnival and join me in congratulating all our participants, families, staff and Parents and Friends for their delicious lunch!

Enrolments for 2024 have commenced and interviews will commence next week. Please contact the office should you have a child ready to start school next year or know of anyone who would like an enrolment package.

May your week be gentle and your 'cuppa', strong!
