Term 3 Mandarin Overview

Grade Prep

In term 3, students are going to explore the topic of family members in Chinese, and also develop an understanding of the different names addressing grandparents in China. Such as ba ba (dad) , ma ma (mum) and siblings in Chinese. Students will also explore the familiar tones learnt from previous terms and understand basic comprehension of Chinese character.

 

Grade 1

In term 3, students are going to explore the topic of fruits, students also will introduce to fruits that are imported from China and becomes popular in Australia. Students also use previously learnt colour topic to describe the fruit.

 

Grade 2

In Term 3, students are going to learn different seasons words in Chinese and explore the difference between the seasons from China and Australia. Student will also learn simple sentences to describe the seasons such as "xia tian hen re" Summer is very hot and more.

 

Grade 3

In term 3, students will be introducing AIM strategy to learn a Chinese story 'Little Tadpoles'. Meanwhile, they will be exposed to vocabulary and sentence structures based on different categories in the story. Students are expected to confidently read the story in Chinese and perform the story.

 

Grade 4

In term 3, students are going to explore the sports words in Chinese and understand the use of verbs before the sports are played, for example when hitting something using hand in Chinese is "dǎ“ to hit or when using leg "tī” to kick when playing a sport. Students research on the origin of soccer and demonstrate understanding of some sports influenced from China.

 

Grade 5

In term 3, students will be exploring the currency from Chinese Yuan and Australian Dollars. They will also learn to ask “how much is this” in Chinese and understand the bargain culture in China. Students develop understanding of formal and written language for currency and also everyday use of language about currency.

 

Grade 6

In term 3, students are going to use grid paper to practice writing Chinese characters, and write simple sentences about their school, describe the subjects their like and dislike and ask others of their preferences. Students will also introduce the country of origin and inquiring about others’ countries.

 

Year 7

 

In Term 3, Year 7 students are learning to describe people’s appearance and personalities. They will learn to state their opinions and comment on historical characters.

 

Year 8 

 

In Term 3, Year 8 students are learning to use time expressions and phrases when creating daily schedules for trips to China. They are also applying the geographical terms in Mandarin to create cruise ship route on a world map.
