Year 6 Term 3 Curriculum Outline

How did Term 2 fly by so fast? The Year 6 team are looking forward to another fantastic term of learning and growth with our students. We appreciate all your support in ensuring students are prepared, well-rested and ready for each week.
Term 3 Learning:
In Reading, students will be involved in evaluating characteristics that define an author/illustrator’s individual style. They will reflect on a writer's use of words, images, language (figurative), connotative meanings and connectives and how these add to the meaning, quality, mood and tone and the enjoyment of a text. They will be investigating the author's purpose of a text and evaluate the authors’ personal beliefs.
In Writing, the students will be exploring the Explanation text structure. Students will learn how to effectively explain a process or application to an audience by using a range of language features in their writing. They will also use 6+1 traits such as ideas, organisation, voice, word choice and sentence fluency to further enhance their writing.
In Numeracy, students will continue exploring our big idea ‘Fractional Thinking where they will be connecting common fractions, decimals and percentages. They will solve problems involving the addition and subtraction of related fractions. In Time, they will be able to convert between 12 hour and 24 hour time. They will also interpret and use timetables as well as Measure, calculate and compare elapsed time
This term our Social and Emotional Learning will focus on SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviour Support)
- Health and PE focus - Key Features of health-related fitness and the significance of physical activity participation
PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies)
- Emotional understanding, Study and organisational skill and Positive motivation.
RRRR (The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships)
- Understanding positive coping strategies
- Positive relationships with peers, teachers and the community.
- Conflict resolution strategies and help-seeking for problems they are facing..
Within Inquiry, students will learn about Business and Economics. They will use their social enterprising skills to investigate the business world.
General Reminders:
- Wear runners on PE days and 5/6 sport (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).
- Please ensure that you check and log into Compass and Seesaw regularly, as these will be the main portals that we (the teachers) will communicate information with you on. Compass is also the place where you will be able to access your child’s goals and achievements, these will be released every five weeks and will tell you what your child has achieved in Reading, Writing, Numeracy and Inquiry/Social, as well as their next steps (goals).
- Please return Year 7 transition forms to the office ASAP.
- If your child will be having an extended absence/holiday, this must be communicated with the school and discussed with leadership.
Homework:
- Reading: Every night for a minimum of 30-60 mins, with follow up questions relating to the book.
- Practising Ongoing Reporting Goals.
