Co-curricular - Junior Sport

The time has finally come when we say farewell to the Winter season. Over the past 10 rounds of play the boys in the Junior School have won over 60% of their fixtures this year, with many of the losses being very tight, maybe one or two scoring opportunities being the difference in these games. The Junior School ended with six teams undefeated this season. They were 10B, 11B1, 11C, 11D, 11E and 11F1 Football teams. Congratulations to all the boys and coaches involved in these teams. What has been most pleasing this Winter season has been the continued development shown by all teams. In many instances, teams have come back to play opponents from the early rounds and been able to avenge a loss or extend a winning margin; proof of the developments made over the course of the season.

I would like to thank all the parents/carers for their unwavering support of their sons and the Junior School teams. Without you travelling around Sydney each Saturday and juggling the multiple drop-offs, we wouldn’t have a season. So, thank you for all that you do that often goes unnoticed.

To our staff and coaches, a huge thank you for all your hard work this season. Whether it is planning a session, running interchanges, or just supporting the boys through some tough times, your efforts don’t go unnoticed.  The development in the boys is directly related to your enthusiasm and dedication to the teams. Thank you for making this season such a success.

Finally, to all the boys that took to the fields this Winter season, thank you for your passion, determination and pride when playing in the College colours. You continued a proud tradition, set by many before you. Your efforts this season have set the platform for those that will follow.

With the Winter season concluded, for many there is now an opportunity to rest. The importance of rest can’t be understated. While this period provides the right environment for recuperation and recovery, it also is a time of preparation and readiness. Boys will need to find a balance between allowing their bodies to heal, while finding time to be active to prepare themselves for the upcoming Summer season. Sleep will no doubt play an important role during this period. I encourage the boys to stick to good routines around sleep at this time and maybe take advantage of a few Saturday sleep- ins.

A reminder that the Junior School Cultural Co-Curricular photos will be taken on Monday 21 August. All photos will be taken after school and boys have been informed of their times. Due to the times of some of the photos, boys may need to make alternative arrangements for travel home on photo day. Junior School sport photos will be held in early September and will be held during the school day. Details to come closer to the date.

I wish everyone a restful break between the seasons and wish the Junior School Athletics Squad all the best for their first carnival, South Harbour Invitational Athletics Carnival, this Saturday.
