CURRICULUM FOCUS
In Mathematics this week, we are continuing our learning to create and follow a set of directions based on a map using digital technology.
VOCABULARY
Map:
An object, either digital or on paper, used to show different locations. They include locations, grid references and a key.
Digital Technology:
Devices such as computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Using a computer or tablet (or paper if you don’t have either of these), have your child create a map. This could be of their school, their home, the Zoo, a park, or a treasure map.
Make sure they include different locations, grid references and a key.
Then, have them write specific directions from one location to another and see if a family member is able to follow them to reach the location.
EXAMPLE:
- Walk forward until you get to Big W.
- Turn right, and walk past the 2 ATM machines.
- Keep walking forward until you get to the food court.
- Turn left, then walk until you get to Domino’s.
- Turn right, walk forward, and KMart will be right in front of you
