CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Reading this week, we are continuing our learning to build our literal meaning by determining importance.

VOCABULARY

Main Idea:

The main idea is a sentence that provides the subject for discussion; it is the topic sentence.

Supporting/Interesting Detail: A paragraph contains facts, statements, examples-specifics which guide us to a full understanding of the main idea.

Literal meaning:

The meaning from the text that is stated directly in the text.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

With your child, read a book from their blue satchel or  books they have at home to identify the main idea of each paragraph. Discuss the main idea of each paragraph or page of their books.

E.g. A text about crocodiles has a paragraph about what they look like. The main idea of this paragraph is to give information about the appearance of crocodiles.
