Walton House News
Dear Parents, Carers, Family and Students,
Hello Walton!
Term 4
I hope everyone has had a fantastic term 4 so far!
On Wednesday the 9th of November we had a year 7 parent information night. This was a success, with 200 people in attendance to have a look at the fantastic facilities of school, get familiar with the house system and the unique options HPSC offers to students, such as student choice through our Enhance program!
Commencement begins in week 8 this term. This means that the 2023 academic year will begin! This is a great opportunity for students to get a head start in their subjects and prepare for next year.
On Friday the 4th of November HPSC student leadership team hosted a Halloween themed day, where students could come wearing black and white clothes, and had the option to change into a costume at lunchtime to compete in a Halloween dress up competition!
We also ran a HPSC Horror writing competition, and we had some absolutely phenomenal, and terrifying entries. Students came together at lunchtime to read their horror stories or poems out loud to each other. All students who entered were given a certificate and a horror book prize!!
Mr Shinkfield has written a Newshamper article titled ‘Horror Writing Competition’ so please go and read that article if you’d like to read the entries, and see photos of the students receiving their certificate and book prize!
Student Leaders
We are excited to announce the official senior student leadership team for 2023. Each house has one College Captain and one House Captain.
College Captain for Walton - Safiah Hussaini
House Captain for Walton - Sina Javadi
Congratulations Safiah and Sina!
Homework Club
A reminder that homework club runs after school on Monday (library), Wednesday (e-block) and Thursday (library). The homework club is run by passionate, experienced and knowledgeable teachers, it is free tutoring and a wonderful program for any/all students to be involved in!
Values Nominations and House Points
Term 3 has already shown a huge amount of values nominations come through to celebrate the incredible work that students are doing in their classes, and to show the dedication to adhering to the school values. We had a House Assembly last week which celebrated these achievements.
A huge congratulations to all our Walton students for their efforts on earning nominations for living our HPSC values. Currently our nominations stats are:
Respect: 107 student nominations
Learning: 1401 student nominations
Working Together: 679 nominations
Leadership: 100 nominations
Community: 62 nominations
That is a total of 2,352 nominations since the beginning of the year!
Reading House Points
If sport isn’t your thing, remember that across the houses we have a reading program. This reading program is to encourage students to read books, fill out a mini review and receive 5 house points!
If you’re interested in this, please go to the library near the returns, and you’ll find some coloured slips. They are in house colours, so grab a yellow one and start reading! Ms Riley will add this to compass as a values nomination and you will get house points!
If a student writes a longer review (300 words), Mr Shinkfield will post it on the compass newsfeed, and that student will be awarded 50 house points (that’s right, 50!).
Staff Book Recommendation
Georgia Riley
Recommendation: Atomic Habits by James Clear
Atomic Habits is a book about helping people implement useful habits into their lives. It’s a really good book for anyone who is interested in the science behind forming habits, and the benefits of having good habits in your routine. I recommend it!
Walton Student of the Month:
Hussain Sultani – Year 9
Congratulations to Hussain who is our Walton student of the month! Hussain has shown tremendous growth over the past month, and has been dedicated to showing his ability to adhere to the school values of Respect, Learning and Working Together. Keep it up, Hussain!
Walton Staff Member of the Month:
Ready to Learn Reminders:
- Please remember to wear your uniforms with pride. Uniform is an important way to demonstrate our togetherness as a community, and a way to represent our school community. It’s a responsibility of students at HPSC to uphold this standard, and overall, we are really impressed with the presentation of uniform so far. Wearing the uniform correctly is a great way for us all to show school pride! 😊
- Remember to attend classes on time, so that students have the best chance at accessing information and content. Being 10 minutes late 5 times a week means students can be missing an hour of class time over the week.
- A reminder to students to ensure bags aren’t coming to classes, and that lockers are being used appropriately.
Thank you
-The Walton Team
