Low Income Healthcare Card:
Once you have finished school you are no longer a student, and you may be eligible for a Low Income Health Care Card.
This card gives access to a range of concessions, not only on some health care items but also on a range of other goods and services if you are on a low income. Some TAFE and other short courses may offer discounts for cardholders.
You may also be eligible for public transport concessions (note that if you are studying interstate, you are not eligible for public transport concessions in Victoria).
Eligibility for a Low Income Health Care Card is based on YOUR income over the previous 8 weeks before applying. If your income is less than $5,248 over that period (or $656 per week) you are eligible to apply. You will be eligible to keep the Low Income Health Care Card as long as your income does not exceed $6,560 (or $820 per week) in any 8 week period.
It is highly recommended that all eligible graduating Year 12 students consider applying for this card once the exams are over.

Tax File Number:
- If you are looking at starting work (casual, part-time, full time) you will require a Tax File Number.
- Importantly, current Year 12 students are reminded that they cannot enrol in a CSP course without a Tax File Number.

William Angliss - Learning Through Lunch Excursion:
On Friday 22nd October a group of Year 10 and 11 students were invited to attend a 'Learning through lunch' excursion at William Angliss Institute. Students had a tour of the campus, then engaged in a 3 course lunch at the Angliss Restaurant whilst networking with Ardoch industry volunteers on their table discussing pathways & interests.

Train to become a Flight Attendant!
Flight attendants (also known as cabin crew) ensure the check in and out of passengers on domestic and international airlines. They provide exceptional customer service and give clear guidelines to passengers about safety processes. They also provide food and beverage services to passengers and work closely with the pilot/s.
Interesting information about flight attendants in Australia:

The average age is 38
There are 8,500 flight attendants employed
51% work full time
Common requirements include:
• Excellent health and fitness
• Able to swim 50 meters fully clothed
• Able to reach 180cms on flat feet
• 18 years +
• Security check
• Responsible Service of Alcohol
• First Aid certificate
• Experience in customer service
• Have a passport
• Can work a 24/7 roster
To become a flight attendant, you don’t need formal qualifications, however some workers have completed the Certificate III in Aviation (Cabin Crew).

Q. What are you doing in your Career?
A. I have successfully completed my Senior VCAL, and I am also completing a Certificate III in Business Administration at Flame Tree Advisory as a School Based Trainee through the Headstart program at school.
Q. What is the best thing about your Traineeship?
A. Being able to go to school as well as work at the same time is great. It has also been good getting paid as well working through the school holidays has meant I have been able to save.
Q. What advice would you give someone looking at this pathway?
A. Go and see the people in the Careers team and listen to them. They have been very helpful and supportive when I was making my mind up with what I wanted to do and when I started the actual role.
