Year 3

The year 3 team love to spill the tea on what's going on in our cohort, read below to find out the juicy information of what our glorious students are doing at school.

Maths:

In Maths, we have been learning all about different operations and money. It has been fantastic to see the students’ so engaged and willing to learn about creating values in multiple ways. Their favourite part of the unit so far has been the exploration of worded problems. Through this, they have been trying to create an equation that matches the worded problem and then use their skills to solve it using a method they feel most comfortable with. It has been awesome to see how far they have come in the past few weeks.

Competition Time:

We have a competition running in year 3 where we are looking for the BEST line prior to school starting and after lunch and recess! The Year 3 Teachers are so proud of how each class is demonstrating team work skills to effectively line up. This reflects our school wide 4RRR’s.

Health:

What a perfect start to term 4 exploring the impact of positive social interaction and self-identity. So far, the students have described the characteristics of a good friend, looked at different communication skills that assist in being a good friend and the meaning resilience.

Reading and Writing:

In Reading, we have been learning about techniques poets use to convey mood and imagery within a limited amount of text. Some poetic devices that we have explored include rhyming, repetition, and alliteration. Some figurative language we have explored include similes, metaphors and personification.

In Writing, we have created our own poems following certain structures or common poem types. We have explored the creation of quatrain poems, limericks and haikus. Each of these have a different structure and purpose.

Check out some of our poetry below:

Camp:

The Grade 3 students went to Log Cabin Camp on Wednesday the 2nd to Friday the 4th of November. It took us a little over an hour to get there and everyone was so excited! We participated in so many fun activities like the possum glide, milk crate stacking, commando course, archery, zipline and the giant swing! We ate lots of delicious food such as spaghetti, chicken schnitzels, muffins, fruit, cereal and choccy cake with ice cream! Yum! The best thing of all was hanging out with our friends and teachers, trying new experiences and making lots of memories. We loved camp and can’t wait to go again next year!

“My favourite was the Zipline because I did really cool moves and went upside down! I also enjoyed the giant swing because I got to face my fears!” – Noah, 3D

“My favourite were the activities like the giant swing and the zipline!” – Van, 3C

“My favourite thing was the possum glider because most of us faced our fears by giving it a go and trying a new experience.” – Bianca, 3A

“I liked having free time in the cabins with my friends and I liked all the activities.” – Sophie, 3B.

We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

Year 4

Wow! How are we in Week 6 or even Term 4 already?

What an amazing few weeks it has been in the classroom. Read on to see what we have been up to.

Reading

We have dived deep into the world of poetry and explored many different poetic devices. Nonsense poems were a huge hit and performing funny poems was even better. We learnt how to use different types of figurative language to help express emotion, tone and create imagery for a reader.

Writing

We have adapted everything we learnt in Reading and applied it to create our own poems. Some of the poems we have been able to draft and publish have been cinquain, haiku, free verse, limericks and many more. We had fun uploading these to Seesaw.

Mathematics

We have continued to develop our knowledge and understanding when working with all four operations. It has been fun working with money and creating financial budgets during our operations unit. We have also experienced what it would be like as a car manufacturer deciding on the next model car to design. We conducted a survey and collected specific data about the cars driven in Caroline Springs and then displayed the data using excel to create graphs. As a group we then needed to write some statements about the data to present to the CEO of the company explaining what we thought the next model car should be. We used PowerPoint to organise our presentation.

Humanities

We are in the construction stage of our ‘Frame by Frame’ unit of work. We have just started to construct our SETS which will be used in our ‘Stop Motion Animation’ later this term. We can’t wait to show everyone what we have been able to create.

That is it for now and we look forward to sharing some of our amazing work in the next newsletter.

Regards,

Chris Cameron
