Raise Mentoring Program
Congratulations to the Year 8 students who completed the Raise Mentoring Program for 2022! From term two to term four, ten Year 8 students participated in the Raise Foundation’s best-practice mentoring program every week at school. Across the program, the mentees and their volunteer mentors formed positive connections with each other to build the students’ confidence, communication skills, and resilience.
At the Graduation session in week 3 of term four, students and mentors celebrated their time together with thank you speeches, receiving Raise certificates, and as per, some fun games and delicious snacks! The program officially wrapped up in week 4 during the Separate session where the mentor-mentee pairs farewelled each other for the year. It’s safe to say that the mentoring program will have a lasting impact on everyone involved, whether student or mentor!
Thank you to Laura from the Raise Foundation for running the program and the community mentors who generously volunteered their time to make a difference for our students. We hope to run the Raise Mentoring Program for the third time at Brookside in 2023, so keep an eye on this space!
Be Wise Presentation
In week three, secondary students attended the Be Wise – End the Coward Punch Presentation. Alan from the Pat Cronin Foundation shared the tragic story of Pat Cronin, a nineteen-year-old who was killed by a single coward punch in 2016. Through the presentation Alan encouraged students to reflect on their attitudes towards anger and aggression and empowered students to Be Wise and never use violence.
Thank you to the Pat Cronin Foundation for sharing this important message at Brookside – learn more at patcroninfoundation.org.au or check out the flyer on the upcoming Be Wise Walk on 20th November.
