Wellbeing update
Welcome to Term 4 in wellbeing! This term has already started off to be a big one with the Whitehorse Youth Forum in week 3 and the Healthy Minds Program being rolled out with the year 8 students. Koonung Day was also a great way to end term 3.
Koonung Day
Koonung Day was a great success for all involved. Our continued relationship with Headspace is growing and Sara and the Youth Advisory Group were able to join the wellbeing team for flower pot painting. It was great to see so many students getting involved and letting their artistic flair shine. We have got a few of the lovely decorated pots on display in wellbeing and anyone is welcome to come and take a look.
Whitehorse Youth Forum
On Friday in week 3 of Term 4, the wellbeing team and five lucky students attended the Whitehorse Youth Forum at Box Hill Town Hall. It was a great day for the students involved and gave them a chance to find out more about different organisations available to students. Some of the organisations we heard from were Each, Headspace, The Butterfly Foundation and Elephant Ed to name a few. We were also lucky enough to hear from the Keynote speaker Nevo Zisin a queer, non-binary, Jewish writer, performer, activist and public speaker and participate in a Yoga and Relaxation workshop.
Healthy Minds
The year 8 students have been fortunate to have the Healthy Minds program added to their curriculum in term 4. The Healthy Minds program aims to eliminate preventable psychological disorders and to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge to maintain an optimal level of mental health and wellbeing. So far it has been a fun and engaging experience for the year 8s and we look forward to continuing it throughout the term.
