Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome back to Term 4

Welcome back. I hope you all enjoyed the school holidays.

Term Four will certainly be a busy term with much happening. Whilst there is much exciting learning taking place in the classrooms, we are also very much focussed on bi-annual Art Show to be held next week, with the official opening on Thursday 13th October at 3:15pm on the top basketball court - everyone welcome. Families are then invited to tour our Art Show - please make a booking via the QR code below. Another focus is our annual St Justin’s Fair on the Hill, which will be held on Saturday 5th November. This will be the first for many years and again, we are asking everyone to get involved.

We encourage everyone to lend a helping hand - it’s not too late to come on board and help out. Remember many hands make light work.

St Justin’s Visual Arts Show 2022

A reminder that our Visual Art Show will be held next week, commencing with our official opening on Thursday 13th October, 2022 at 3:15pm (please gather on the top basketball court).

We then ask you to book for our Art Show via Trybooking for one of the following times - $10 per family: 3:30pm - 4:30pm, 4:30pm - 5:30pm, 5:30pm - 6:30pm, 6:30pm - 7:30pm

To help feed our hungry artists and their guests, a sausage sizzle will operate from 4:00pm - 7:30pm. A call out for volunteers will go out soon - an ability to operate tongs is all that is required.

Our gallery will also be open on Friday throughout the day and also on Sunday 16th October after our 10:30 am Mass. We welcome you to join us for a “cuppa”.  Donations are welcome.

Fair on the Hill

Thanks to all who supported our Fair on the Hill today via our Casual Dress Day - very much appreciated. As a result of your generosity, we now have a great selection of chocolate for the Choc Toss, hampers for the raffle and various jars of goodies for the Lucky Jar Stall. In coming weeks, we will continue to ask for a few more things, including items for the Cake Stall and of course we will need a mountain of volunteers. Volunteering is not only good for the soul, but good for the community - its a special way we can enrich our community.

School Advisory Council Annual General Meeting

At the request of the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) board, our governing body, St Justin’s Primary School, Wheelers Hill, is conducting an Annual General Meeting for the School Advisory Council (SAC) on Tuesday 11th October 2022 commencing at 7:30pm in the St Justin’s Primary School Staff Room. Everyone is welcome.

When: 11th October 2022 at 7:30pm

Where: St Justin’s Primary School Staff Room

The role of the SAC is to support the Principal, Parish Priest and leadership team of the school. More detailed information about this council is available on the school website.

If you are a member of the parish or have children in the school, and wish to be part of this exciting team in our school, we would welcome your expression of interest. For further information, please contact Patrick Torpey via email or the school office - 9561 7644.

School Fees

Thanks to all those who have attended to their annual school fees - very much appreciated. School fees are an important requirement to meet the school's running costs. A reminder that all outstanding school fees are due for final payment by Monday 31/10/2022.

Direct Debit payment plans will continue as planned.

Any families having difficulty in making payment(s) for 2022 are requested to please contact Patrick Torpey or office staff on 9561 7644 or via email: office@sjwheelershill.catholic.edu.au to discuss how we can assist you further.

2023 Prep Enrolments

If you have a child starting Prep in 2023, please be sure to continue to check your email for updated information and for any outstanding items that may need to be sent to the office. We are looking forward to seeing all the children and their parents as part of our Prep Transition program throughout Term 4. Dates for these are as follows:

Time to get ‘Sun Smart’

A reminder that St Justin’s is a 'Sun Smart School' and as a result, throughout October to the end of April, students are required to wear a sun protective school hat that protects the face, neck and ears. Please make sure that your child’s hat is clean, in good condition and clearly labelled. New hats can be purchased from Academy Uniforms. Students will also be encouraged to wear broad-spectrum water resistant sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and to be responsible for its reapplication throughout the day. Students are welcome to bring their own sunscreen (not to share) or apply in the mornings before coming to school. As always, students are also encouraged to have a drink bottle.

Updating your details - OPEROO

Once again we ask that all families please consider if you have had any recent changes in your personal details - phone numbers, address, emergency contact, medications for students etc. Please take the time to update these details on Operoo so that we always have the most up to date information for your child. This is especially needed in cases of emergency. Thank you!

Whilst you are also welcome to email your child's teacher, letting the office know directly will ensure that your child's absenteeism is record in a timely and accurate manner. For more information please refer to the Attendance Policy on our website.

Car Parking

A reminder to all drivers to please be considerate when parking, ensuring that we park close to the curb and close to driveways, leaving enough room for others to park behind, if possible. We should never park over driveways – not only is it the law, but it is also disrespectful to our neighbours. Safety in and around the school is a responsibility we all share. If parking in the 2 minute zone, please stay with your vehicle – the 2 min zone was never designed for drivers to park and run down to the school.

Please note that students should not be dropped off or picked up in the staff carpark. In the morning and at the end of the day, the car park becomes a busy place with people walking in all directions.

Enjoy a restful weekend with your families and stay safe!
