Carlsruhe Bus
We would like to remind parents and students that the Carlsruhe bus is scheduled to leave at 8:50 each morning and therefore students are required to be at school by 8:45 to ensure they get their name ticked off the bus roll and have time to board the bus safely. It is extremely important that we get to Carlsruhe as early as possible to make the most of our time out there.
Senior Unit Change Convention.
On Monday, the Year 4 students had the opportunity to attend the Senior Unit Change Convention. Students were impressed with the variety and quality of ideas. Here are some of their thoughts…
My favourite one was the ‘Fur No More’ made by Tom Brocklesby and his group. It was like a dog flap made with brushes and when a pet walks through its loose hair gets brushed off. So when a pet comes in it will be clean if it sits on the couch. It could also help with pet allergies. By Austin
My favourite idea was the Chocolate Chess. It really stood out to me because it was a great idea and because kids can get bored in the middle of the game and give up. But with Chocolate Chess you can eat the pieces, so you play chess and have a great time, AND you can eat chocolate in the process. By Arlo
My favourite was the bunk bed that folds into a king sized bed because it looks like it could be very helpful for having sleepovers. By Tom
My personal favourite was the app that told you when you forgot something from your house. And the best part was that it actually worked. They had the code shown on a computer and everything. They also had a phone set up to see what a notification would look like. By Paddy
DAL KTK Sustainability Conference
As mentioned in the previous newsletter, 12 of our students were selected to attend the DAL KTK Sustainability Conference. Read below to hear some of the things they got up to!
Hi I’m Grace and I went to the Sustainability Conference at Hanging rock. Kids from all over the Macedon Ranges came. We were an audience school this year so it meant that we didn’t present anything but other schools did and we participated in workshops.
Hi I am Rhys and I was chosen to go to the D.A.L K.T.K Conference. In this photo Grace and I are looking at some minibeasts under a microscope.
Hello! I’m Polly and I’m one of the people who was chosen to go to the Kids Teaching Kids D.A.L conference. The activity I want to talk about is the hike on Hanging Rock. We went up to The Hanging Rock, which is what the reserve is named after. We had a guided walk up the rock by the park ranger. He told us about the features of the rock, some of the history of Hanging Rock and he pointed out some of the local places of interest that we could see from the top of Hanging Rock.
Hi, I'm Mia, I was chosen to go to the D.A.L K.T.K conference. I have no photos of me but I can talk about Costa, the gnome from Get Grubby TV. He talked to us about how we, as kids, can make little changes but if lots of us do it we can make a big change. I am also going to talk about the activity where we looked at water bugs. It was really cool because there was a chart that told you all the bugs that were in the tubs and we got to look at them under microscopes. It went for the whole day but it felt like it went for 5 minutes. I guess time does fly when you're having fun. Everyone there was really nice and there were lots of other local primary schools. Mia CU3
Hi I’m Angus and I was chosen to go to the KTK conference. I am talking about the bush food jams and biscuits. There was lemon myrtle, an apple one and a rosella one but NOT THE BIRD, THE FLOWER! There were some nice biscuits and you could have three and they were FREE. The whole conference rocked from Angus CU3
Hi, I am Matilda and this photo is of me doing the barefoot walk at the KTK DAL conference. This particular activity was called connecting to country. First we did a yarning circle, but that's not what I’m here to talk about. I am here to talk about the barefoot walk. We were asked to (if we wanted to) take our shoes and socks off and walk through five different tubs of materials. They were: coloured glass stones, sand, rocks, fresh grass and fresh FREEZING water from the creek nearby. We stepped through them and it was a fun activity to do! I am very glad I went to the kids teach kids DAL conference.
Hi I’m Georgina and I want to tell you about the natural wildlife we saw when we went to the D.A.L (Distinctive Areas and Landscapes) K.T.K (Kids Teach Kids) conference. While we were having recess, everybody was very excited to see the Rosellas. Me and my friends were all trying to feed them, and the birds landed on some people's heads! One even landed on my head, but I was so surprised that I accidentally scared the bird away by moving my head suddenly. I loved seeing the Rosellas and they were very bright and pretty with their nice reds and greens.
Hi I’m Kento and I’m one of the lucky people that got chosen to the D.A.L K.T.K conference at Hanging Rock. Now there isn’t really an image I’m in because I managed to avoid Mrs Hall's camera all day so I’m just going to write about something I enjoyed at the conference. One thing I enjoyed was making origami frogs because everyone came asking me for help and I felt like I had all the power.
Hi I’m Zoe from CU1 and I was one of twelve people to go to the K.T.K (Kids Teaching Kids) conference and I’m telling you about connecting to country. I got to try some of the jams with indigenous ingredients and biscuits with natural ingredients! The jam flavours were Lemon Myrtle, Wild Rosella (not the bird!!) and Bush Apple. Australia is slowly losing trees and our nature is disappearing and if this continues we will not have hanging rocks and we will not be able to eat native jams or biscuits. So please contribute to helping the environment and not helping to losing the environment. Bye!
