Year 3/4  Reviews of 2021 Book Week Books

The Unwilling Twin

By Freya Black Wood

In this story, Jules and George do everything together because they’re twins. They do their yoga together, put on matching jumpsuits and eat matching breakfasts. They also play for hours of fun.

The characters in this book are Jules and George. Jules is short, she is a twin to George and she is fun. George is a bit bigger than Jules. George is cute, taller and a pig!

I liked the story because it shows how twins act and shows how much they care about each other and it also shows that twins may disagree but they still get together as twins.

The story made me feel calm at the beginning and it also was a bit funny how Jules and George were mad at each other but quickly stopped being mad and it looked like they were being friends again.           By Enock

Your Birthday Was The Best!

By Maggie Hutching

This book's setting was at a birthday party There are a lot of  characters in this book.  Some of the characters are a baby sister, a dad, Uncle Larry, grandma and Aunty Sharon.  In the story, the birthday girl saw a bug on her cake and she screamed and the dad went to get the vacuum to suck up the bug but the cake got sucked up too.

The book was good but I was grossed out by the raw cheese fingernails in the cat poo.  The book was funny though and I would read this book again as it was a short and funny book with good characters.          By Connor

Not Cute

By Philip Bunting

This book is about a Quokka who was cute but did not like being cute because he wanted to be dangerous. The Quokka is not happy. He lived on an island. There was a Quokka, Dingo, Frilled Neck lizard, Eagle, Red back spider, Crocodile and a snake.

The Quokka was cute but he did not like to be cute. So he made costumes of dangerous animals because he wanted to be dangerous.  He now had sharp teeth. The dingo is  surprised. The lizard is smiling. The eagle is standing straight. The spider is hanging upside down. When the crocodile came they got scared but Quokka did not. The crocodile was nice. The snake ate the Quokka.

I like the book because the  Quokka jumped to fight with the snake.        By Glendon

Norton and the Bear

By Gabriel Evans.

The book that I will review is called “Norton and the Bear” and it is written and illustrated by Gabriel Evans. The theme of the story is that Norton liked to dress uniquely. The setting was out on the street and in some shops.

In the beginning of the story Norton was getting dressed and wanted to be one of a kind by dressing differently to everyone. When he went walking down the street, a bear approached him and said “What exquisite taste you have” and wanted to get a jumper just like Norton’s. When the bear got the jumper Norton was kind of mad when he saw someone wearing the same jumper.

In the middle of the story, Norton tried to change his outfit by buying and changing his clothes to be different from the bear, the bear kept copying him. Norton got really angry and said “Stop copying me!”.

In the end, Norton felt really bad about yelling at the bear. When he saw the bear again wearing a cape, Norton really liked it and the bear said “If you want one I got you one”. So Norton put the cape on.

The end of the story showed that even though their outfits looked the same they were still different people.

I loved the story because it was friendly, colorful and a little bit funny. I learnt from this story that we are all different even if we wear the same clothes as someone else. My favorite character was the bear because he was a little bit funny because he ran off to get the same clothes as Norton. The bear was really friendly because even after he got told off by Norton, he still thought about Norton having similar taste. So when he bought the cape, he bought one for Norton too.

In conclusion, I really liked this story because it was unique to other books and there was a message about us being all different.         By Alex

How To Make A Bird

Meg McKinlay

Lots of things happen in this story like a fake bird comes to life and becomes more realistic than it was. There was only one character in this story but, technically there are really two if you count the bird. The first character is a girl that we do not know the name of.

I like that the story makes your imagination grow bigger than it already is, which is good for your mind. This makes it a good book for children and parents alike. In your imagination, you can be whatever you want. For example, if I want to be the bird in this story, I can be that bird.           By Bhavin

Ellie’s dragon

 By Bob Graham

I think the story's theme is children having nice imaginations. They can see cool things like what was in Ellie’s dragon called Scratch. But when you grow older you lose imagination, then you can’t really see cool things like dragons and dinosaurs. And that's why Ellie couldn’t see Scratch anymore in the end.

My Opinion about this book is that it is a very nice, colorful book. I liked the story because it has a very good meaning, that kids have better imaginations than older people. I think the author is trying to tell us that different people have different fantasies, they can imagine things when other people maybe can’t.

My favorite part of the book is when Ellie first sees Scratch. This is my favorite part of the book because both Scratch and Ellie look very cute at the start of the book.

Year 5/6 Remote Learning goes Trivial!

Due to the enormous success of the Rose-Lee inspired Staff Trivia night last week, this week it was the senior students' turn to dust off the dictionaries and engage in a highly competitive (and totally enjoyable! ) 5/6 Trivia competition. Teams were thrown together randomly and students were tested on all things Sport, Music, Film, Games and General Knowledge. Lots of fun was had by all participants.

Year 5/6 Trivia Competition

As it was such a success, we decided to get the grown ups involved,  so next Tuesday, the 7th of September the families will battle it out to see who will become the Trivia Champions of Sacred Heart (well, in the 5/6 area at least!). Should be a lot of fun and a much needed distraction!

Next Tuesday....BE THERE!

Green Fingers Start to Emerge!!

Well done to Nikita, and thanks, for sending in a photo of her seedlings which are beginning to emerge. Nikita is not the only green finger out there, with plenty of other students having their seeds emerge over the past week or so. So don't worry too much Joel, Nicola, Anni and Sylvie....... these seedlings are just teaching us about PATIENCE!!
