Music Matters

While students are at home during this time it might be good to get a few practice tips.

  1. A little practice but often. 15 minutes a day is better than 2 hours on the weekend.
  2. Always warm up. This will make for a better playing experience in your practice.
  3. Play some scales and don’t neglect a chromatic scale.
  4. Brass player work on your harmonics and long notes.
  5. Always tune yourself. Better still, download a tuner from the App store.
  6. While you are there get a metronome as well. This will help with your rhythmic accuracy.
  7. Listen to the greats for inspiration.
  8. As the great James Morrison says “If you are having fun playing now, wait until you get better at it.”

I hope that provides some guidance at home.

Here are some names of boys who are achieving in their ensembles. I would like to particularly mention Robert Oner from Year 8 who has used his time to compose a piece for the Intermediate Concert Band. Well done Robert. We might be able to feature it in a future performance.
