Clever Classes
Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5 and Grade 6
Some very clever is work is being done in our Grade 2,3 4, 5 and 6 classrooms!
GRADE 2
One of Grade 2's favourite things is the Buddy Program with MacKillop College.
Usually this takes place at John Paul II but this time our buddies invited us to their school. We were so excited and the visit did not disappoint. There were some exciting activities for us to participate in, we got to be scientists, dancers, explorers and even joined a Grade Seven Physical Education class. The students from both schools have made some great connections and always look forward to seeing each other.
Kobin: "Last week we went to MacKillop for an excursion to see our buddies. When we were there we made some paper rockets. We used coloured paper, straws and tape. We tested them to see whose went the furthest. It was very very very fun! We also did some dancing when we were there. I saw a huge soccer field and the art room. We did some P.E. in the gym. We got to have a tour around the school".
Kirby: "On Wednesday 1 June we went to visit our buddies from Mackillop. We went to the dance studio and did Just Dance. It was fun, it was a little bit slippery and there was lots of mirrors. We made some rockets. Charley, Isla and Liam's went the furthest. Mine was the colour purple and pink. We also went for a tour, then we went to the gym and played Red Rover and Mushroom Tag with some Grade 7s. I would like to go again and do art.
Hamish: "We went to MacKillop on Wednesday 1 June. We got there on our school bus. The first thing that we did was make paper rockets, mine went a little far. Everyones looked good and they flew well. we got to do some Just Dance. We went on a tour around MacKillop and went into a building called Kirby. We liked the building because we have a Kirby in our class. Then we played a couple of games. We didn't hear the rules because we were still looking around the school. It was super good going to MacKillop because we got to go to another school with the older kids".

GRADE 3/4 BLACKWOOD
This term in 3/4 Blackwood we have been writing information reports about authors.
We had to choose an author and write about them. Some of the authors researched in
our class include Dr. Seuss, David Walliams, Andy Griffths, Mem Fox and so many more. First we had to find out information by researching on the ipads. Then we had to use the information we gathered to write an information report. We then got to type our work on the ipads and print it out to display in the classroom.
We also drew our favourite book cover from our author. It has been hard work but a lot of fun!!
Millie - I have enjoyed learning about my Author Mem Fox.
Tommie - I found out that Andy Griffths is 60 years old!
Pavneet - Meridith Cosatin lives in West Gippsland and is 67 years old.
Lily - I enjoyed learning about my author David Walliams.

GRADE 3/4 MYRTLE
The Church That 3/4 Myrtle Built
As part of our studies in Religious Education, 3/4 Myrtle have been looking at the Church. We discussed what a church building is used for, what a church building looks like and the items and spaces that can be found inside them. We found out that Catholic churches have many spaces and objects that may look a bit different but they serve the same purpose and have the same name. As part of our learning we attended a parish Mass to experience something special that the church is used for.
After Mass we had a question and answer session with Fr. Richard who told us a bit more about the things in the church and how they are linked to our faith and Jesus. Our final task for our unit was to construct a church of our own, making sure we had some of the things all Catholic churches have and explaining what they were for. We constructed our churches using cardboard boxes and paper craft or using the Minecraft Education app. Finally, we had a think about the importance of a church, if it was needed and why. We are quite proud of our efforts!
Here are some examples of our work.

GRADE 5/6 HUON
In Grade 5/6 Huon we have been learning how to plan and write narrative texts.
Recently we have been learning how to create good character descriptions. We talked about words and phrases that we could use to describe the personality, feelings and appearance of familiar characters. Then Mrs B got us to choose a staff member and write our own description of them. It was fun. Here are a few examples...

GRADE 5/6 SASSAFRAS
In Grade 5/6 Sassafras we have been learning about Australian Government. We used Canva to produce a timeline showing key events in the formation of Australia's Democracy and have created a triarama showing the roles and responsibilities of Australia's Three Levels of Government - Federal, State and Local. We have also held elections for our School Parliament. Students have begun working in their given roles to organise activities.
Pictured above: Student Robbiel's and Lilly's timeline
Our first School Parliament activity, organised by the Culture and Community Team, will be held in Week 10 of this term. Students will be able to wear their
winter woollies to school and purchase a hot chocolate for $1. Money raised will go towards a new toaster for Breakfast Club.
