Flora & Fauna

COOKING: In the last week of Term 2 and continuing for the first few weeks of Term 3, students are learning how to make Banana Cinnamon Muffins. Mrs O’Keefe has created a simple to follow recipe that students can follow independently (or with support from adults if required). Gone are the lovely pizza aromas and we welcome the new aromas of baked bananas and cinnamon in this rotation. Thank you, Mrs O’Keefe, for another delicious recipe! The photos below highlight the fun our students have whilst learning in the Gallery!

GARDENING: Over the School Holidays, a new and very large garden bed was built in front of the Level 3 and 3/4 portables that face the oval. Not only does it provide new seating for our students to eat their snacks and lunch, it will also provide ingredients for our Cooking program! Over the next couple of months Paddy will work closely with the Level 3 students filling it with soil and then planting seeds. We look forward to watching the growth of our ‘soon to be’ vegie patch!

SUSTAINABILITY: During Rotation 5 (Powering our World) students are learning about the different forms of energy and how these are sourced. Additionally, students are investigating ways to reduce the amount of energy we use in order to minimise the impacts on our environment.

SCIENCE: Melting Moments is the Science topic students are currently engaged with in Rotation 5. They will be following the 5 e’s inquiry model often used in science (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, Evaluate). Students will investigate how different items affect how fast or slow a piece of ice melts, and examine reasons why this happens.

Thank you to all families who have volunteered their time to help our students in the Gallery. If you are available to assist our students, please sign in at the office and meet at the Gallery at 11:30am on a Tuesday. To determine when your child is cooking, the Term 3 schedule is outlined below.

Happy gardening and cooking!
