NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week is important as it’s an opportunity for learning, connection and community. It gives First Nations people and non-Indigenous people the opportunity to celebrate and connect with community and Country. And it’s a chance for everyone, not just First Nations people, to celebrate all aspects of First Nations histories and cultures.

We are pleased to announce that we will be celebrating NAIDOC week at Newlands on Friday 15th July. We are doing it on this day due to the fact that NAIDOC week falls during the school holidays.

Students will be involved in a variety of activities which will provide them with authentic learning experiences. Our school KESSO (Koorie Education Support Officer) Sonya Hunt has been working with a group of our students to create a new Newlands Acknowledgement of Country.

We are inviting all families and community members to join us for the Smoking Ceremony presented by Trevor Gallagher, which will begin at 9:15 and the Koorie Youth will Shake Spears dance group performance which will be held at 2:30 p.m.

There will be a $5.00 cost for each student which can be paid via the SENTRAL app. This day is being heavily subsidised by the school and the Parents and Friends Association.

Students will be encouraged to wear the colours of red/black/yellow on the day.

Thanks,

Sonya O'Brien

Second-hand Uniform Sale

We will be holding a second-hand uniform sale on Tuesday 19th July beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the quadrangle.

Donations will be accepted before school at the front steps from 8:30 a.m. on

Monday 18th July.

Lost and Found

Just a reminder that all items which are found at school are placed in the Lost and Found tubs in the quadrangle.

These tubs are checked regularly and named items returned to their owner.

The message here is to ensure that all items bought to school should have their owners name on them.
