F1

Cultural week

We have had a fun filled last week of term celebrating the Inti Raymi Festival (Festival of the sun) from Peru.

Students have worked across the F1 classrooms using their creativity to explore aspects of Peruvian culture and the festival.

Hands on learning experiences throughout the week have included;

Making their own sun dial using paper plates. Students have learnt about the rotations of the sun and how the importance of the sun is recognised and celebrated throughout the festival.

Exploring traditional clothing from Peruvian culture and the ways that this clothing has been made. Students dyed wool using the natural materials of coffee, cabbage and turmeric. They also explored how the fibres of the fabric are woven together and produced their own paper weaving design.

Learning about the diverse geographical regions of Peru including their natural fauna and flora. The children illustrated their own interpretation of a region and then crafted animals from that region out of clay.

Crafting their own puppets to represent the people, culture and traditions of the Inti Raymi Festival.

These puppets were used as a final performance piece where students practiced their Spanish dialogue.

Additionally, we were fortunate to have a visit from the 456 team where they shared their own Spanish stories.

Could you be our Cinderella?

On our excursion to Bounce, one student came home with the incorrect shoes. They are the correct colour and brand but the wrong size to the one shown. Does your child have the other pair? Could you please double check.
