Secondary School Happenings

Movies at The Kings

Article by Olivia Elphick | Year 8 Student

On Friday, 24 June, the Year 7/8 students had an awesome social night. The night's focus was to hang out with friends and watch a movie together. The movie was Raya and The Last Dragon, which is a new fantasy film inspired by the beautiful cultures of South-East Asia. The film was a great one to get together with friends and enjoy.

Some students brought air mattresses, doonas and pillows so they could relax and enjoy the film in comfort. Before the movie started, the Year 11 and 12 CFC classes ran a snack bar for us to enjoy. Everyone raced back and forth to get lollies, sausage sizzles and much more.

The teachers and students loved this night overall as we all cheered at the end of the movie, and we went home with smiles. We all want to say a big "thank you!" to Mr Hoffmann and Mrs East for all the organisation and hard work they put in.

We can't wait until the next event!

Black, White and Bling River Cruise

Article by Heather Whiskin | Year 10 Student

On 10 June, the Year 9 and 10 students had the opportunity to attend the 2022 River Cruise on the Crystal Swan.

The night's theme was "Black, White and Bling!" It was amazing to see everyone turn up dressed to impress. Throughout the night of contagious dance moves, teachers gave out spot prizes to students who looked like they were having the most fun! During the event, classic dance songs played, delicious food was eaten, and so many memories were made by everyone who attended.

As the Year 9s and 10s embraced the music, students voted for the best dressed and best dancers of the night for each grade. The best dressed of the night for Year 9 were Brock and Kylie, and the best dancer awards went to Anesu and John. For Year 10, best dressed was awarded to Destiny, followed closely by Evan. Considering the wild dance moves happening throughout the night, the choice for the best dancer in Year 10 was tough, but in the end, the prize went to Beckham and runner-up Balian who certainly stood out with their moves! Teachers also got to choose a student who looked like they had the best time! The student who could not stop dancing, smiling, and enjoying themselves went to Eairn in Year 10!

The staff of the Crystal Swan commended the school's excellent behaviour and the joy everyone brought with them. They look forward to hosting for The King's College next year. As word of the great night spread through the school's year groups, excitement for next year's cruise has already arisen! Students expressed their gratitude to all the staff who organised, attended and hyped up the evening, but special thanks go to Mrs Watson and Mrs Panting for being the women behind the wheel and making this event as awesome as it was. Overall, hands down, the River Cruise of 2022 was a huge success for the College.

Year 12 Social

Celebrating the end of Term 2, some of the Year 12s let off steam last Friday (24 June) at Lazer Blaze in Willeton. The fun social event gave the students an opportunity to catch up with friends outside of school. Bring on Term 3!

M.E.S.H

The Year 12 Human Biology students attended an excursion at the Harry Perkins Institute in Week 9 of Term 2. Students are currently studying the application of biotechnology in understanding, diagnosing, and treating genetic diseases. The visit to the institute provided students with an immersive view of the work being done in this area, especially in treating conditions such as diabetes and some cancers. Students spent the day in the laboratories, performing some of these techniques which they found invaluable in helping them understand and increase the relevance of the concepts being covered in class.
