College Captains

Savannah and Tyler | College Captains

Spirit Week is an exciting event hosted by College Captains, as well as the Year 12 cohort. The theme of the week is inspired by the fruits of the spirit, as outlined in Galatians 5:22-23. We aim to leave a legacy that can be continued into the Year 12 groups in the future. This event sparks creativity amongst graduating classes in creating an event that is engaging for the students in the College.

We plan to leave a gift of fun, happiness and love for all of the students at the College. On Friday the 23rd of September, we plan to host a free sausage sizzle and a school sports game involved with fun activities.

This event is still being planned, so keep on the lookout for updates. We look forward to cherishing this event with the school and the graduating class.

Another important message is Jeans for Genes Day! It's an awesome fundraising event that is aimed at helping the community of those affected by genetic diseases. Students and staff were encouraged to participate in this event and bring a gold coin donation. Everything big starts with a small step. Taking action on these issues assists in this small step for health within our community. A big thank you to everyone that has made this day possible; it is deeply appreciated.

One last topic we wish to cover as College Captains is Mental Health. It is okay to feel the way you do; if you're struggling, we encourage you to speak to anyone you trust and feel comfortable with. The Student Leadership team are hoping to work closely with the Student Services team to look at ways to raise awareness and support for mental health issues in the College. This is another small step that will lead to something big.

NAIDOC Week

Mr Daniel O'Malley | Head of Learning Area HASS

This year's NAIDOC Week theme is "Get Up! Stand Up! and Show Up!"  The Secondary School celebrated NAIDOC week with different activities to get the students involved and show support for Australia's amazing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture.

  • NAIDOC T-Shirts and Email Banner designed by ASDAN students.
  • Various Primary school activities.
  • At the Secondary Athletics Carnival, they had a NAIDOC-themed playlist, highlighting some of Australia's most talented Indigenous musicians.
  • There was face painting during recess and lunchtime. Students got to pick from 7 different designs. Thank you to Shekinah Barton, for taking lead in sourcing the drawings which had special meaning to her culture, as well as her Year 12 peers in getting involved in the activity.
  • During HASS classes, students learnt about Aboriginal Ancient History.  Students were encouraged to wear the Aboriginal flag-coloured bracelet they made.

As part of the Expressive Arts ASDAN module, students were tasked with creating and selling an item of their own design.   Working with Mrs Hill, Mrs Galindo and the Responsive Education team, Shekinah Barton created an individual design for print on our very first NAIDOC Week T-shirt that tells a story about her life as the basis for her design.

“This is a T-shirt Design alternative about my story and what happened in my life in the symbols I use in my culture for NAIDOC week.“  Shekinah

We met with a school parent Annette Madayag who runs a local printing business called JM Designs, and she was happy to help us produce the T-shirts. Shekinah and her mother visited them to oversee the details of the design and production process. Huge congratulations to Shekinah on her brilliant achievement!
