VISUAL ART- Mrs Sandra Renehan

Outback Shacks - Year 6

The year 6 students have been busy working in pairs to build their shacks taking inspiration from famous Australian artist Russell Drysdale. Using only recycled card students are investigating ways to solve the challenges of 3D construction while building upon their communication and teamwork skills. We look forward to sharing the finished pieces with you soon.

Thinking BIG! - Year 3

The year 3 students have taken inspiration from famous sculptor Claes Oldenburg who mastered the art of oversizing everyday objects including food to create visual impact. Needless to say the students embraced this fun activity & have worked diligently to construct these delectable desserts... almost good enough to lick!

TRY ATHLETICS - Mrs Angela Mason

On Thursday 28th of July, we had our Try Athletics Day. It was held at Bricker Reserve in Moorabbin. It was the first ever Try Athletics day for our school’s year 3s, 4s and 5s,  Year 6 students had participated in a Try Athletics Day as Year 3s. It was our first Try athletics day for three years. We competed in Triple Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus and of course, the fun running races (100m, 200m and 800m). It was important we tried to do everything hence the name ‘Try’. We all made sure we tried our hardest at each event.  The athletes who threw the farthest or ran the fastest in each event will be selected to represent St.Mary’s at the Holt District Athletics on September the 1st at Duncan McKinnon Athletics track. Each event was 30 minutes long so it was a very fun and energetic day that left us all feeling very tired.

Thanks to Miss Curtis, Miss McGuinness, Miss Sarah and Molly’s mum Sarah who coached and measured the Shot Put event.

Thanks to Miss Paula, Mr Scott, Olivia’s mum Ruth, Scarlett’s mum Hannah, and Anthony’s dad Richard for coaching and measuring the Discus event.

Thanks to Miss Janelle, Mr McGuiness, Sienna’s dad Leigh, Spencer and Nicholas’ mum Cath, Orlando’s mum Rad and Baxter’s dad Bruce for raking the sandpits and measuring our leaps in the Triple & Long Jump event.

Thanks to Mr Addicoat and Mrs Ferrari and Alec and Leo’s mum Jo, for their expertise on the start and finish lines of our track events. Mrs Ferrari managed to start all races without using a starter pistol and only had one false start for the day!

Thank you to Mr Speranza for managing the First Aid tent.

Finally, thanks to Mrs Mason, our Sports Coordinator, organised a smooth, fun and amazing day!

HOOP TIME

On Thursday the 4th August 16 basketballers went to MSAC with Mr Addicoat and Miss Kat to represent St Mary’s in the Holt Hoop Time competition. We were excited, and a bit nervous, as this was our first Hop Time competition.

We were in two teams:

The All Stars - Jake, Enzo, Oliver, Wally, Solomon, Blake, Wilson and Leo.

Future Stars- Heidi, Ivy, Molly, Mateo, Alec, Xavier, Brie and Carmen.

Each team played four games in a round robin against other Holt District schools. Both teams played really well and tried hard all day. The All Star team won every game convincingly and won the Grand Final against St Agnes. A great effort all round!

Thanks to Mr. Scott, Tony (Alec’s dad) and Jose (Mateo’s dad) for scoring and supporting the Future Stars. A big thank you to our coaches, Mr Addicoat (Future Stars) and Miss Kat (All Stars) for their words of wisdom and encouragement!

Keep an eye out for news on the All Star team as they go on to represent the Holt District at the next level of competition.
