Principal Introduction

Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

As we move into the second half of term 3 all students in years 8 -11 will have now considered subject selections for 2023 in a range of career planning sessions.  As progress reports have now come out for students I encourage all parents and carers to discuss the success and the challenges in these reports with their child. It would be great to see some small goals set that lead to improvement in learning and can be evident in the next reports. Families will also be able to access staff next week with the college Parent Teacher Conferences. These will be held over two days, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 August, to provide families opportunity to discuss your child's learning with their teachers. Interviews will be conducted over the phone, via email or via zoom.

All of our Year 11 students participated in the Fit to Drive program this week. We had a wonderful range of presenters come in and work with our students on a very important topic - the organisation behind the scenes by staff to get such events up and going is a real team effort. The Fit to drive day was successfully led by Mrs Andrea Zappner and many students commented on their enjoyment of open conversations and group activities.

The production crew are busy getting final rehearsals completed and polishing an amazing event for the community - have you got your tickets yet? The students involved in the production have committed an outstanding amount of time and effort in the preparation.

Ms Clare Dimpsey sent out a communication to families over Compass regarding the use of Vapes. This document contained many useful facts about the dangers of vaping and it is important that families read and discuss this information together.

Mr Mitch Riggs has been leading the organisation of exam revision lectures for our Year 12 students. The college will be running external exam revision sessions for all subjects and students are required at all sessions for any subjects they are studying. We have our Unit 4 classes starting to head into revision, this time is extremely important for students to really consolidate their understanding of subject curriculum, how to complete the exams with maximum results and for many students how to manage their wellbeing over the exam period.

We also had a wonderful opportunity to begin meeting with our 2023 Year 7 families at the 'Welcome to EMC' evening. The evening provided an overview of expectations of the college and the families, how to access support and supports available as well as the curriculum model that students will engage in. It was exciting to see so many students and their families attend and ensure they are undertaking the steps required to successfully transition from primary to secondary school.

Kind regards,

Jodie Ashby.
