Brick Break - Mentoring in Action

Led by Year 10 Student Empowerment Team students, a group of keen junior Lego Master builders have been meeting up every Monday lunchtime to partake in some friendly competition, while also connecting with new friends, and having fun! The name of the game; building whatever your brain can imagine! Here is a display of some of those creative creations from this week’s session. Junior students are welcome to attend, please see Ms McCarthy for details.

Cooper Anderson - Year 10 SET

Is it your job as a parent to ensure your children are happy?

According to parenting expert Dr John Coulson, believing the myth that it's your job to make your kids happy can lead to all kinds of issues, such as

1.        An increased likelihood of making short sighted decisions.

2.        Overwhelm from the impossible task of satisfying your child's craving for happiness.

3.        Exhaustion from the heaviness of that burden.

4.        Setting your child up to fail.

5.        Your child not learning that happiness can only come about intrinsically.

So... what are you responsible for then?

1.        Teaching your child to find their own happiness.

2.        Teaching them how to understand their emotions.

3.        Teaching them how to have positive relationships.

4.        Teaching them how to do hard things.

5.        Teaching them to be responsible for their own emotions.
