Prayer
This Sunday, 14 August, is the Feast Day of St Maximilian Kolbe and Monday, 15 August, is the Feast of the Assumption. The Feast of the Assumption commemorates the glorification of Mary, chosen by God, to be the mother of Jesus Christ.
Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Priest who was incarcerated in Auschwitz. He volunteered to die in place of another man who had a wife and family.
Saint Maximilian Kolbe's life was strongly influenced by a vision of the Virgin Mary when he was a child and he believed in praying to Mary, as did Blessed Edmund Rice.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said,
'greater love hath no man that he lay down his life for his friends',
make us like St Maximilian Kolbe, whose life illustrated such love.
He gave up his life for a total stranger and loved his persecutors,
showing us an example of unselfish love for all men -
a love which was inspired by true devotion to Mary.
May we too give ourselves entirely, without reserve,
to the love and service of you in order to better love
and serve others in imitation of your humble servant, Maximilian.
Holy Mary, Mother of God... Pray for Us
Saint Maximilian Kolbe... Pray for Us
Live Jesus in our Hearts... Forever
Year 12, 2023 - Our New Student Leaders
As we communicated to our College community last Thursday, our Student Leadership Team for 2023 was announced on 4 August. I am very pleased to confirm Eamon Boyle as School Captain for 2023 along with Mitchell McGrath and Joshua Bewley as School Vice Captains. The full Student Leadership Team for 2023 is provided below. Congratulations to all these young men. We are fortunate to have such exceptional students as our school leaders - they follow a fine tradition of leadership in the College.
The Prefects will be placed into their respective leadership portfolios over the coming days and these student leaders will form working groups with all Year 11 students to work together for the College as they move into their HSC year and will be the Class of 2023.
Celebration of Learning
Last Friday's Celebration of Learning was a special occasion for the College, as we were able to gather once again at the Concourse, as a community, to acknowledge the recipients of Academic Awards for Semester 1 in Years 7 to 10. Our special guest speaker was dux of the College in 2015, Ben John. I include the video of his speech below.
I congratulate all the award recipients and include the list of recipients in the attached document. I also thank Fr David Ranson who was in the official party and presented awards.
Debating
I would like to congratulate our Year 12B Debating team of Will Ramsbottom, Ben Cullen, Will Staber and Max Leo who competed in the Grand Final of the CSDA Debating against Loreto Normanhurst A Team last Friday evening. It was a well-fought debate and the adjudicator was looking at the minute details of their debating skills. Congratulations to Loreto for their win and well done to our team for their efforts on the night and also throughout a wonderful season of debating.
Saturday Sports
Congratulations to all our sporting teams on another full weekend of sports on Saturday. We have several Football teams moving on to the ISA semi-finals this weekend. Congratulations to these teams and all the best on Saturday. Our Rugby teams are travelling to Bathurst this weekend and good luck to these teams.
