Summer Sport Trials

Last week, Summer Sport Trials Schedules for Baseball, Basketball and Cricket were published via the SPC App and Team App. I ask that all students trialling for a Summer sport be aware of their respective trial details. I wish to highlight that those in the 13s, 14s and 17s age groups will have a trial on Saturday 17 September.

As you are aware, construction works for the new Scientia Building continue to take place on the site of the old tennis/basketball courts. Due to the loss of these facilities, most Basketball trials and training sessions will take place offsite for the 2022/23 season. In the coming days, a Basketball Travel Permission Note will be disseminated to those boys who are trialling offsite at Auburn Basketball Centre.

It is imperative that this note is read by both parents/carers and boys, and travel permission is received by the College.

As published last week, should you require any further information or have general questions, please contact the relevant MIC in the first instance:

Baseball            Mrs Felicity Warsop felicity.warsop@spc.nsw.edu.au

Good luck to our First V Basketball squad who will play a trial fixture against Waverley College this Saturday at 9:00 AM at the Br. Lacey Gymnasium (Waverley).

Congratulations

Nicholas Macher (Year 9) and Jack Taylor (Year 9) who represented the NSW Swim team at the 2022 Australian All Schools Swimming Championships held in Brisbane a few weeks ago.

Congratulations to Nicholas who won a Bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle event and placed fourth in the 400m Individual Medley. Well done to Jack who made the finals in the 15yrs Boys 50m Freestyle event and placed fifth overall. He was then selected to compete in both NSW Relay teams.

I would like to extend my congratulations to the St Patrick’s Old Boys’ Football Club for their tremendous season. The club’s First Grade side won their Grand Final 4 – 1, but sadly our Reserve Grade side lost 2 - 1 in extra time. The U21s team also played in the Grand Final on Saturday, unfortunately going down 5 - 2.

Congratulations to Old Boy John Manenti (’88), Head Coach of the Australian Men’s Rugby 7s team. On Monday morning, Manenti’s side capped off a remarkable turnaround to seal Australia’s maiden men’s title. John took over the men’s program just over a year ago and has now guided a squad who were labelled as ‘a bunch of misfits’, to winning the World Series Sevens tournament for the first time in its 23-year history.
