Faith, Justice and Formation

Fathers’ Day Masses

Thank you for all those who submitted an RSVP for the Fathers’ Day Masses this Friday 2 September. Berg, Coghlan and Crichton will be at 7:45 AM and Hanrahan, Hickey and Rice will be at 9:30 AM, both in the College Gymnasium (next to the pool). The doors will not open until 7:15 AM for the first Mass. While it is not mandatory, it is recommended that all attendees wear a mask.

ALL students are to take their bag into school prior to Mass and place it in their locker. They cannot bring their bags into Mass, and they cannot leave them lying around outside, unsupervised and causing a hazard.

Please note there is no allocated parking at the College due to building works, thus you will need to park in the nearby streets. Please be prepared to walk and please be mindful of where you park, keeping our neighbours happy. We ask that you do NOT park in Hyderbrae Street and in the staff parking areas. You will be able to drop elderly grandfathers off outside the staff carpark next to the pool (on the road) and then move off to park your car.

Following Mass, the morning tea/breakfast will take place in the Robson Auditorium next to the carpark. You will need to walk downstairs to enter.

We hope you have a wonderful celebration with your sons, and we wish all of you, especially those who cannot make Friday, a Happy Fathers’ Day for Sunday.

God bless you.

Father, thank you for Dad,

Please continue and complete your work in him,

granting that he may walk with you like Enoch,

believe you like Abraham,

obey you like Isaac,

wrestle with you like Jacob,

know your hand on his life like Joseph,

speak face-to-face with you like Moses,

win victories for you like Gideon,

speak boldly for you like Elijah,

worship you like David,

see you high and lifted up like Isaiah,

and carry Jesus’ cross like Simon of Cyrene.

Year 12 Spirituality Day

Last Friday all of Year 12 stepped out on their Spirituality Day looking at Unity through Diversity. It was a day that allowed each young man to make a choice about where they might be able to gain and enhance their spirituality after leaving school. This day is the final part of an eight-year Formation Program, providing a sense of drawing on our foundations to look into the future. Each person may grow in different ways, but it doesn’t divide us. We can actually deepen our unity through the recognition of all of our different talents and interests, just as St Paul said in his letter to the Corinthians:

“All the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”

Students could choose from eight options including Spirituality through Art, the Spirituality of Music, Film in the ‘Reel’ World, In Jesus Name We Play (Sport & Body) and a Pilgrimage with Mary MacKillop (faith). Here are a few other options…

The God and the Bush option saw the group travel out to Scenic World in the Blue Mountains to partake in a gruelling bush walk down into the serene Jamison Valley. Whilst we were met with several challenges and setbacks along the way, each minute spent along the trail offered us the opportunity to admire the sheer beauty of nature and God's Creation all around us.                                 Jai De Lisser-Howarth

‘In Our Own Backyard’ was an option that looked at working for justice for our First Nations’ peoples. We walked around Redfern for the day meeting many leaders in the community and getting to know lots of services that are provided to empower and grow future generations. We learned how we can contribute to the solution rather than continue the hardship.                                                                             Student
Our option looking at the role of literature in our lives saw us walk the Spit to Manly Walk, stopping to take in creation and history. We heard excerpts from literature that spoke to our surroundings and we had the opportunity to write about our own experiences, tapping into our soul.                                                                             Student
