Year 6 News

This week the Year 5 and Year 6 APSMO group (Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiad) completed the 4th contest of 5 in the annual competition. The students are continuing to learn and develop problem solving skills through experimenting and sharing strategies with each other.

To further extend these students, we have introduced Algebra over the past couple of weeks. Algebra has definitely challenged us!!! With Algebra you play with letters, numbers, symbols and formulae to calculate unknown quantities. The students have had to be open-minded as they have delved into BIDMAS and negative numbers within algebraic equations.

We have been particularly impressed with how well the Year 5 and Year 6 students have worked together in these sessions, as they have collaborated on problems and learnt from each other along the way!
