Year 5 News

As we approach the halfway point of Term 3, it is easy to forget how much has been accomplished in the past couple of weeks.

Inquiry

Over the past couple of weeks the Year 5s have explored why and how logos and slogans are created, the purpose of TV and radio advertising, how to be critical about your consumption of media and the impacts of influencers and social media. The students thoroughly enjoyed creating their own logos and slogans in class. We will finalise our unit with students collaboratively creating their own digital advert using persuasive advertising and literary techniques.

Literacy

Our comprehension focus this fortnight has been looking at 'Facts and Opinions' in a variety of texts, including informative texts, news articles and advertising. In writing, students are enjoying drafting their individual writing pieces as part of the 'Writing Process'.

Numeracy

We commenced our new focus of Decimals and Percentages last week. The students began by revising decimals and place value for numbers smaller than 1 using the correct mathematical language (e.g tenths, hundredths and thousandths). We delve deeper into converting decimals to fractions and the relationship between decimals, fractions and percentages.

Yet again, great work on a fantastic fortnight Year 5s!

Please enjoy some photos of the students' logos and slogans.
