SingFest 2022

On Wednesday 30 March, students who are passionate and interested about singing and choir were given a chance to go on an excursion to Patterson River Secondary College to join in this year’s singfest.

Singfest is a wonderful opportunity for students to benefit from a wide range of choral experts and repertoire.

We experienced a day of intensive training and the chance to network with like-minded students from other schools. We rehearsed and performed in a large choir setting and to work with experienced choir directors - Adam Przewlocki

One of Australia’s leading show choir directors, Adam founded the first of his choirs, the Divine Divas of Sunbury in 2007. He has enjoyed an illustrious career as a concert pianist, chamber musician and accompanist. He has performed as recitalist throughout Australia, USA, Europe, Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan and New Zealand.

We prepared four songs and were able to rehearse and record three of them:

“Let it Shine”, “Kuimba” and “Beds are Burning.”

We had a very fun day and enjoyed singing. Like the African words of Kuimba are simple yet very inspiring with the meaning: “Come let us sing. Let music be our guide. Sing with a joyful heart. Sing of peace. Sing of love.”

Big thanks to Ms West and Mr Veevers for preparing this day and taking most of us to Singfest, we appreciate your time and effort :) We are definitely looking forward to doing it again in the future and welcoming everyone who is interested.

Symphony band gets to play on!

On Sunday 27 March our Symphonic Band had their first big performance in over two years! It was a combined concert with the Southern Area Concert Band and the McKinnon Wind Symphony.

Each group performed their own 30 minute program, before the three bands combined together to perform Blues in the Night and The Light Eternal.

The performance was live streamed, and can still be viewed at https://youtu.be/SovzAqw3UUM with the MGSC performance beginning at 29:46.

Year 9 drama

Year 9 Drama elective students gave a special performance at St Patrick's Primary school in Mentone in the last week of March. Over 60 prep level students loved the 'Fairy Tale' performance.  They cast is 'on tour' presenting the same play at Beaumaris North primary school.

The students' presentation was acknowledged with a letter from the school.

Hi Geoff,

Just wanted to pass on our thanks for that fantastic presentation your very talented class put on yesterday for our Prep students.  The students were absolutely delighted by the experience, some even exclaiming it was "the best show ever!"

Your girls did a brilliant job with their very engaging performances.  They showed great skill when interacting with the audience and encouraging them to participate.  They knew how to tone down the scary characters ( witch, giant, wolf etc) and how to ham it up to get a laugh from the audience.  They even managed to bring those traditional tales into the modern era with a reference at one point to the coronavirus!  Even the preps picked up on that and thought it was funny.

You're doing a great job with that class and I applaud you and Alizea for reaching out to us for a target audience.  I think it's wonderful when local schools work together and yesterday we certainly reaped the benefits.  Keep us in mind next time you need an audience. Thanks once again!

Kind Regards

Kathryn Ady, Prep Teacher, St Patrick's
