Library News

Renovation

The library is undergoing workroom renovations during the school holidays, which will extend into the first month of term two.  We are still open during term time weekdays from 8am to 5pm for study, research, book borrowing and recess/lunchtime breaks.

Children's Book Council

The six shortlisted books for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Young Adult Book of the Year 2022 have been announced this week.  And are as follows:

We have copies of these books in the library which are reserved for the students who have expressed their interest in Shadow Judging the CBCA awards this year. Each student will read the six books and then within a facilitated reading group, discuss the content and respond to a judging criteria. The winning book will be announced during Book Week in August. Students who are interested in participating in this new initiative are invited to email the library.  library@mgsc.vic.edu.au

Post-it Note wall mural

The library is looking for student volunteers to build a Post It Note Wall mural in the library.   We hope to create a large and very colourful butterfly made entirely from Post It notes. This mural ties in with the 2022 book week branding and theme of ‘Dreaming with your eyes open’ which will be celebrated later in the year. A big thank you to the students who have already emailed the library.

New Resources

The library is pleased to announce the arrival of new resources to support student learning - The Issues in Society volumes 2020 – 2022.

“Each book in the Issues in Society series targets a specific social issue and comprises a thoroughly researched compilation of the latest news, facts, statistics and commentary from trusted sources. Many titles cover a range of opinions on controversial topics, providing the perfect platform to provoke debate, stimulate critical analysis and encourage further research.” The Spinney Press

Each title is available to borrow in print and/or as an electronic download, via the library catalogue.  These new resources contain current and topical information, which can be used for assignments and debating. The February 2022 releases include:

  • Body Image Issues
  • Housing the Homeless
  • Managing Australia’s Water
  • Sexual Identity and Gender Diversity
  • The Future of Transport
  • Understanding Sexual Consent.
