Acting Principal's Message

Caitlan Taig

Dear OLA Families,

We did it! We congratulate our students, families and staff for a fantastic Term 1 of 2022! It was wonderful to complete a ‘normal’ school term onsite after the interruptions of the past two years. It is so nice to experience a sense of normalcy and reinforce our strong community feel that we are so proud of.

Reconciliation

This week our Grade 3 students participated in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is such a special time for our children to participate in the Sacrament of Healing, and to speak with God about things they might need forgiveness for. We have explored that no one is perfect, but it is important to reflect on our actions, apologise for any wrong-doings and move forward in a positive way.

Parent Support Group Meetings

Over the past fortnight we have held Parent Support Group Meetings (PSG meetings) with some of our families. These meetings are so important to discuss any adjustments to student learning and wellbeing at OLA. We thank our families and teachers for partnering together to track student growth, and co-create future learning goals. I thank Josy Reeder and Christine Thredgold for leading these important days.

Grade 6 Jumpers

The Grade 6 students have waited very patiently for their special jumpers....and don't they look fantastic?! Thank you for your patience as we awaited this all important order. Our Grade 6s have been wearing their jumpers around school with pride.

Regional Swimming Competition

We congratulate Matthew R who represented OLA at the Regional Swimming Competition yesterday. He came first in freestyle and second in backstroke and breastroke. A huge achievement! We wish Matthew all the best as he progresses through to the State Swimming Competition in the 50m Freestyle event on 29 April!

Lightning Premiership

Senior students participated in T-Ball, Cricket, Tennis and Volleyball on Friday 1 April. All teams had wins, draws and losses. It was great to see the student's enthusiasm at a sport competition level. Thank you for all your hard work and for representing OLA with such pride and integrity.

OLA Grade 3-6 House Cross Country

Congratulations to our Grade 3-6 students who participated in the OLA House Cross Country today. Cross country running is not only a test of your fitness and athleticism, but also a good way to practice persistence and giving your best. We are so proud of everyone who tried their hardest and had a go.

Building Update

This week has seen the commencement of demolition at OLA. A couple of skip bins have been filled as Jardon Group have begun to demolish interior walls and fittings in the building site. Doesn’t our old front office and staff room/parent room area look different?!

Over the school holidays a lot of the heavy demolition will take place; Jardon Group are utilising this time where students are offsite to do a lot of the noisier work.

We are excited to show you the plans for the outdoor area that once housed our portable classrooms. We look forward to more synthetic turfed area, shade cloth that is also wet weather proof, an outdoor stage, some tables and chairs for outdoor learning, greenery and another drink tap/bubbler.

Knitting Group - thank you

The OLA Parish Knitting Group would like to thank those that supported us at our last stall.  We have been able to give St Vincent De Paul Conference Cheltenham $1290.

School Tours

It has been a pleasure to continue welcoming families this past fortnight for our School Tours.  We were so proud to showcase our school and special thanks to our School Captains who so proudly and capably spoke about the school that they love. If you or your friends missed this tour we invite you to register and join us on the upcoming tours which are advertised on our new kindergarten flyers. Enrollments are open and we ask that siblings coming to OLA in 2023 enrol now.

We wish all our families and staff all the best as we head into the well deserved school holiday break. May you find some time to spend as families and enjoy the down time!
