Prep Report

Welcome back for Term 2! We have been so impressed with how settled each and every prep student is. Everyone has returned from the holidays ready to learn and remembering all of the classroom expectations. Read on to find out what we will be learning about in Term 2...

Literacy

In Term 2, we will be reviewing Concepts About Print, including what the difference is between letters, words, and sentences. We are going to continue learning the letters of the alphabet through singing songs, reading stories, playing games, and participating in language experiences. Students will begin to use their knowledge of the letters and sounds to blend and segment words in their reading and their writing. We will also begin to learning some reading strategies including, matching the pictures to the words and looking at the initial sound of an unknown word.

Our writing genre this term is Recounts. We will engage in different language experiences throughout the term and write about each one. Students will be given daily opportunities to use their emerging knowledge of the alphabet to record their ideas and experiences.

Numeracy

In Term 2, we will be covering the following topics

  • Counting to 20
  • Measuring Length and Mass
  • Positional Language (in, on, under, etc)
  • Data (Graphing and answering yes and no questions)

Inquiry

Our Inquiry Topic in Term 2 is Me, Myself and I. We will be looking at the people that can help us learn, grow, and keep us safe at home, school, and in our local community. We will be answering the questions of "What makes me, me?"; "How am I similar/different to others?"; "Who makes up my family and my community?"; and "What is a community?". We have an exciting term planned with many incursions booked in from local members of the community.

SEL

This term in SEL we will be learning about Positive Coping Strategies and Problem Solving Skills. We are going to learn how to identify different emotions, discuss ways we can take responsibility for our actions, and learn to use a range of techniques to help us settle and get back into the "Green Zone", ready for learning. We will also begin to recognise the needs and interests of others, identify ways to solve difficult problems both in the classroom and in the yard, as well as learn how to learn and play cooperatively with our peers.
