Welcome back! The Grade 6 team are very excited for the term ahead! Although it is a short one, we've got lots of exciting learning happening across all subject areas! Each week the Grade 6 students will participate in a Social and Emotional Learning program run by Louise and their classroom teacher to build upon the students social and emotional skills and positive peer interactions.
We thoroughly enjoyed our end of term Colour Run as well, check out some pictures from the day below!
In Literacy this term, Grade 6's will read and write exciting short stories. In Reading, our author focus will be on Paul Jennings and Michael Morpurgo. We will explore the ways these authors describe setting, develop character and plot, embed a theme and conclude their stories in engaging ways. Each week students will use the short stories read in class to enrich their own short story writing. The Grade 6's will follow the writing cycle to plan, draft, edit, revise and publish a piece every fortnight. As students unpack this genre, they will identify the setting, character development, theme and conclusion. Reading sessions will also include Literature Circles, where each group will meet to share their opinions, thoughts and perspective of their chosen novel.
