Year 3 Report

Welcome back to Term 2!  

 

During this term, the Grade 3 students will be involved in the Social Stencil program. The students will participate in a variety of activities that will focus on building social and emotional skills that will enable them to establish positive relationships with their peers.

 

Literacy

This term in Reading, the Grade 3 students will focus on text structure and features of narratives looking at the difference between fantasy and realistic texts.  The students will explore a variety of texts and will be given opportunities to make connections and inferences to deepen their understanding.

 

In Writing, the Grade 3 students will further develop their understanding of elements of a narrative in order to entertain an audience. They will learn how to develop characters and settings, as well as events using a variety of language devices.  The students will also have opportunities to learn how to revise and edit their work.

 

In Maths, the students are continuing to work on place value, solving more or less problems using their knowledge of renaming.  The students will also use near doubles facts, fact families and building to the next ten to help solve addition and subtraction problems. They will also learn efficient mental strategies, such as round and adjust and take and give, to solve addition and subtraction problems. 

 

In Inquiry, the students are exploring heath and wellbeing.  They will

investigate and describe methods of recognising and avoiding harmful situations at home, school and the community.  They will Identify how health services and products address the health needs and concerns of the local community.
