Sacramental Program

Sacrament of First Reconciliation

This week our Yr 3 students started their classroom preparation for their Sacrament of First Reconciliation. If you have a child/ren who wish to receive their Sacrament of Reconciliation, but are not in Year 3, please contact me via email: ewhatmore@smhampton.catholic.edu.au

The sacrament date for St Mary’s students is Wednesday 5th April, 2:15 pm. Parents and family members are most welcome to attend.

Please mark the following dates in your calendars:

  • Family Preparation Evening: Wednesday 22 February, 6 pm, School Hall
  • Student Reflection Day: Wednesday 29th March, in class
  • First Reconciliation Liturgy: Wednesday 5th April, 2:15 pm, St Mary’s Parish

Family Preparation Session: A requirement of the Sacramental Program is for families (e.g. parent and child) to attend the Family Preparation Session. This will be a special evening for you and your child to reflect on their faith journey and to come together as a family in preparation for the sacrament. It is also an opportunity for you as parents to have an understanding of the Sacrament and what the program looks like for your child and how you can support them at home.

The presentation will be led by Fr. Elio Capra SDB who presents engaging Sacramental preparation sessions in schools around Melbourne. During the presentation he will share information about what a sacrament is, with a focus on the description of the sacrament of Reconciliation - a sacrament of initiation. The session will also include questions, and dialogue to be shared between parent/s and child, examples of the sacraments in action, prayer ritual, scripture and a blessing.

Sacramental stoles: Last week, parents whose children will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation took home a white stole, which they will wear on the evening of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. On the stole the students’ name will be placed on the side with the school logo (embroidered, ironed, glued or written) and a symbol of the sacrament on the other side. Symbols of reconciliation may include: praying hands, Bible, prayer book and cross. For more Reconciliation symbols please view the link below (under Reconciliation Symbols heading): https://www.nancyscreations.com.au/symbols_fonts.html

As our Reconciliation candidates continue on their journey of faith, we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Peace and blessings,
