AROUND OUR SCHOOL

International Day Workshop
On 16 November the Year 9 LEAD class held an afternoon inviting the International Students to come and learn about the Australian culture. To start off with we played some quick get to know each other games; one of them was like a speed dating game where you quickly get to know each other and the other one was where you stand in a circle and each person says their name and something about themselves. This was then followed by putting out some iconic Australian food such as Tim-Tams, Vegemite, lamingtons, Caramello Koalas, meat pies and much more. The lamingtons were by far the favourite. Then we showed them a presentation about what this food was and why we had chosen to bring this food.
Finally we showed the students an AFL presentation and everyone chose a footy team, with the most popular teams chosen being Sydney Swans and Richmond Tigers.
This presentation was then followed by a kick of the footy outside where the local students demonstrated how to kick and handball the footy. We got to know them a bit better talking about each other’s’ home cities and just had a general chat. Overall I think that the afternoon was great fun and well planned out. This activity was our group project for the LEAD class, where we are required to choose an aspect of the community that we would like to improve; our group decided we would like to improve relations between the International and local students. The project is entirely student run and we had to work together as a team to ensure we successfully put this event together. Thank you to Ms Lauren Costanzo, Mrs Adrienne Shepard, Mrs Sharon Koning and Mr Aaron Elias for supporting us with this event.
