From the Principal

Dear Parents, Staff, Students & Friends
We are fast approaching Christmas and I suspect a very hot summer break. We are not taking a break quite yet at our great school because it is still full steam ahead as we continue to involve our students in challenging learning experiences up until the very last day.
EARLY COMMENCEMENT: HUGE SUCCESS!!
The Early Commencement Program has been a huge success with teachers and students having challenging learning experiences right up until the last week of school. Teachers are commenting on how hard working their classes are which is a sure sign that our students have been doing their best in preparation for a great 2017.
HPV MARATHON: THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE FOR OUR STUDENTS.
I am in awe of our staff and parents who are prepared to give so much of their weekend time to ensure our students were well prepared for the RACV HPV Challenge in Maryborough. This is a gruelling weekend 24 hour race where staff and parents have to be on hand throughout the night and over a period of non stop 24 hour racing to support our students. The qualities of being a productive team player, good sportsmanship and resilience that our young people develop by participating in this event is priceless. Thanks to Ms Georgia Tierney and Ms Carly Douglas for their dedication in making this event available for our students.
LORNE SURF LIFE SAVING CAMP: A CHALLENGING LEARNING PROGRAM!
Welcome back to the students and staff who attended our Surf Life Saving Camp. During this camp students are constantly studying, training and being assessed to successfully complete their Surf Lifesaving Bronze. As part of receiving this qualification they are required to patrol local beaches. This is an incredible authentic learning experience for those who participate, equipping them with qualities, knowledge and skills which are helping our students to develop into great young people we are proud of. Congratulations and thanks to Mr Rowan Cameron for allowing our students to have such a wonderful learning opportunity and for the provision of the surf lifesaving program throughout 2016.
GREAT VICTORIAN BIKE RIDE
We congratulate our Great Victorian Bike Riding Team of 40 students, parents and teachers who have just completed a nine day epic journey from Halls Gap along the Great Ocean Road to Geelong. To be well prepared to ride hundreds of kilometres our staff and parents have devoted countless hours to weekend and after school training rides, conditioning our students and also teaching them etiquette on and off the road. As a result, our students made us proud on the trip with many fellow riders commenting on the friendliness and good behaviour of our young people. Thanks in particular to Mr Mal Burt for his care and dedication whilst leading this trip.
NATIONAL KNOCKOUTS - CANBERRA
Congratulations to our Junior Girls and Senior Boys Teams who competed in Canberra at the Australian Knockout Championships for Athletics on 5 December. Our students achieved some outstanding results with many achieving personal best performances. Well done to our junior girls (Isabella Phanivong (Year 9), Charlotte Cain (Year 8), Rhemmy Gibbs (Year 8), Lily Oxley (Year 7) and Alyssa Wooding (Year 7) who placed 9th.
A huge congratulations to our Senior Boys Team (Lawson Power (Year 12), Michael Cann (Year 12), Daniel Vella (Year 11), Matthew La Fontaine (Year 12), Jeremy Fraser (Year 11), Kadel Key (Year 11) and Lewis Bailey (Year 10)) who placed 2nd in Australia. Our boys were on the podium with Barker College and Trinity Grammar. This is a fantastic result and we are extremely proud of both the boys and girls team.
WORKING BEE KEEPS OUR GROUNDS LOOKING MOST IMPRESSIVE
Sincere thanks to Ms Carolyn Florance for leading a most successful working bee on Sunday 20 November. Unfortunately I was unable to attend because I was at Maryborough cheering on our HPV teams. Much weeding was undertaken; a necessary activity at this time of year where the growth has been rampant. Thanks to all parents and students who were in attendance.
I look forward to celebrating with many parents and students at Presentation Night. Please be reassured that there are many students who do not attend Presentation Night who have had a very successful year because they are making the most out of their time at our great school. Thanks again to students, staff, parents and friends for your support in allowing Frankston High School to remain a leading world renowned school of excellence.
I wish everyone a safe, happy Christmas time with family and friends and look forward to welcoming you back to Frankston High School in 2017.
Mr John Albiston
