Multicultural Students Activities

March 2023

Youth Leadership Conference

A Multicultural Youth leadership conference was held on the 8 March in Melbourne. Schools from around Victoria had sent their representatives with more than 700 students. Northern Bay College (all campuses) attended the conference with 42 students. Students had good experience as one of the attendees.  College Captain, Jevic puts it

I felt very connected to everything  each one of the speakers shared and related to almost every single one of their stories and the struggles they faced within these experiences.

The atmosphere was cool the way African Afro Beats were played, introducing the speakers on the stage. Overall it felt nice to see people that look like me as leaders.

The one-day Multicultural Conference at the Convention Centre in Melbourne was strategically organized to take place at the Convention centre and feature successful young people from different professional, business and social backgrounds who spoke about their often-tumultuous journeys to their success. Students were challenged to own their past, making it a steppingstone to a better future rather than dwelling on it and falling with it. Changing the narrative and becoming an inspired leader, who can confidently advocate for social change was some homework for each participant.

Our College delegation felt the conference should happen annually at the state level. There should also be a min-conference for local schools to share experiences and strategies to promote growth and persistence along students’ learning journeys.
