School Ball

When a school and parents' values align, the influence on the student is more effective. Last weekend’s school Ball was a fine example of this successful approach. It was an opportunity for the students, staff and parents to collaborate in making a memorable night for those who attended. School Balls can be over the top in preparation and expectations whilst, sometimes, testing the school's values. This year, I was delighted to observe the common values that were shared by the school, students and parents. The positive outcomes of the night were shared by all those involved. One pleasing indicator was the full attendance, with every Year Twelve student there on the night. This is not always the case. The event was truly inclusive and the night will be remembered by our students.

NAPLAN Online

The school is busily preparing for NAPLAN Online which will commence on 15 March. NAPLAN Online in Term One will provide parents and staff with timely feedback that can be used during the academic year.

The new reporting includes four levels of achievement: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs Additional Support. These will replace the existing National Minimum Standard and the ten NAPLAN reporting bands.

P&F Sundowner

The P&F Sundowner was well attended by parents and friends after parent information sessions. Could I thank P&F President Mr Jim Darmody for his coordination and interviewing of new Head of Primary, Mrs Leah Field along with Vice President, Mr Jason Pages.

Thank you to the P&F for the GSG Calendar that was distributed to families last week.

Chapel Service

In this week’s Chapel Service, under the direction of School Chaplain Mrs Naomi Cooper, the Secondary School students examined various aspects of love. Just by coincidence, and not by planning, the Chapel Service closely coincided with Valentine’s Day. The service consisted of a reading from John, an examination of the language of love and personal reflection by Mokare Leaders, Maddie Byrne and Levi Masih. Love can be expressed or received in many ways. As a Christian school, we encourage students to be aware of the gift of giving and receiving love and developing an understanding that love is a gift to give and receive. It can enhance our relationships with family and friends that we love and build an appreciation for those in our lives who don’t receive any love.
