Managing the Impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

As you know we are in extraordinary times at the moment with the spread of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) impacting all aspects of our lives.  Managing the impact of coronavirus at St Joseph's is of the utmost importance and a responsibility I take very seriously for the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, volunteers, visitors, and the school community.

Providing a quality Catholic Education for students is what we continue to do while strictly adhering to direction from the Catholic Education Office, Diocese of Wollongong, and Catholic Schools NSW.

I am very appreciative that our parent community has remained calm and respectful when communicating with the school. This is reflected in the children who are going about their learning and school day calmly and confidently as well. Thank you to the many parents who have contacted me over the last week seeking support or information regarding your children.

School routines and procedures continue to be adjusted in our school environment to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all.  I thank the school staff for the calm, dedicated and professional approach to their work and the students in their care each day in a continually evolving situation.

COVID-19 Catholic Education Information Centre

Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong has launched a new COVID-19 Information Centre on its website. It is the best place to find the latest information about CEDoW's systemic response to COVID-19.

Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong continues to receive advice from NSW Health, the Department of Education, Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW), and other agencies to ensure our processes and plans are in line with best practice and the latest expert advice.

At this stage, there has been no direction from government or CSNSW to close any schools, except in response to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis in a student or staff member. All CEDoW schools, including ours, continue to operate as normal, subject to the directives outlined on the COVID-19 Information Centre webpage.

We will continue to provide you with updates if the situation changes and as soon as new information becomes available.

PB4L Home-School Communication at St Joseph's

The St Joseph's PB4L committee wish to make parents aware that if a student is involved in a major behaviour incident outside of the classroom, parents will be contacted by a member of the school leadership team. If the incident occurs within the classroom, parents will be contacted by the classroom teacher.

Following communication with parents, consequences include the student missing a lunch period to meet with a leadership team staff member and  reflect upon their choices and school expectations.

At St Joseph's if a student has had three minor behaviours within a two week period, parents will also be contacted by a leadership team member.

Classroom teachers will always make contact with parents if they have concerns regarding students education or behaviour.
