Gardens Update

From Jarrod Williams Head Gardener

If you have visited Sacré Cœur recently you may have noticed that there has been a significant change to the circular garden at the front of Brynmawr.

Previously, a temporary planting of roses (transplanted from the front of the tennis courts, before the carpark construction), along with small box hedges, had been in this area. These have been transplanted to other parts of the garden. There was also a cast iron fountain that, we have been told, was placed in the circle in relatively recent times (photographs in the school archives show a different ornament in this position around the 1970s-1980s).

Some of you may also remember the Landscape Master Plan produced in 2011. This plan has been the basis of our garden renovation project for the past seven years. The brief for the designers was to produce a landscape plan that would allow for the present usage of the site, while being sympathetic to the heritage of this Victorian era garden. As such, Dracaena draco (Canary Islands dragon tree, dragon blood tree, Sangre De Drago) was chosen during this process as the central planting for this focal point of the school.
