12C - Around the Traps

Literacy

This week we have been working on recognizing the elements of a story and being able to identify the setting, characters, the problem and how is the problem solved. In writing, we are learning how to write different types of poems.  We have learnt that poetry is anything that expresses ideas or feelings with style. We have completed an acrostic poem, a class I wonder poem, colour poems and diamond poems. 

Maths

Last week the Maths focus was fractions, we looked at halves and quarters. This week we are adding eighths into the mix. More than just learning what fractions are, we have been looking at how we can cut and break shapes and collections into halves, quarters and eighths.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry Unit this term is about Stimulating Science. Students will consider changes that we experience in our lives through the lens of four different branches of science including; biology, earth and space science, chemistry, and physics. They will make predictions and scientific observations as they conduct experiments. Each student will show what they have learnt by identifying 'science' in their house and recording their understanding of each branch of science. 

RE (Religious Education)

Our RE Unit is focusing on prayer and how we can talk to God in many different ways. Students are being helped to understand that prayer is an expression of God’s relationship with each of us and that we can pray for different reasons such as prayers of praise, thanks, forgiveness and petition.
