3V - Around the Traps

Literacy

Each week this term, we will be investigating a different base word. This week our base words were <scrib> and <script>. Through our investigations, we learnt that words that have these bases, such as scribble, scripture, description, prescribe and manuscript, all have a similar meaning in that they are about writing. Through our investigations, we look at the prefixes and suffixes that are added to words to change the base word’s meaning. In writing, we have continued to refine our poetry this week. Here are some samples of our work below:

The wind blew as I stepped outside, the barky trees against my warm back, on a hot Summer’s day, the grass scratching my bare legs, constantly, my thick book, open in my hands - Ivy L

The dog growled, at a hideous beast, It's green and slimy and gooey. The dog barked boldly, the ground shook limp posts fell, bang one fell on a Car Crash! The car alarm went off, across the road there was an antique shop, The lady inside was hiding, under the table shivering with fear. - Maurice K

Have you ever tasted, the cold breeze that you get in Spring? The one that tastes like a flower, that never bloomed. The one that you hardly notice, even though it’s there. - SophieA

Maths

We have been continuing to learn about all things time in 3V. Students have been split up into groups based on their knowledge and are either working towards telling the time on the clock, converting time periods, elapsed time and converting 12 to 24 hour time. Feel free to practice reading an analogue clock at home! This can be quite a tricky topic to learn and needs lots of practice.

Inquiry

This week students have been learning about the Earth, Sun and Moon’s relationship to one another. How far apart they are from each other, and how the Sun’s light and the Earth’s tilt and rotation create day and night, as well as the 4 seasons. In the coming weeks, students will be attempting to recreate the Earth’s revolution around the sun in a video format.

RE

We have continued to practice our Fruits of The Spirit play this week, with hopes that we can perform it at an assembly sometime soon. Fingers crossed!
