45SK - Around the Traps

Bridget Smith/Michael Kearton

Literacy

The children are continuing to focus on the concept of ‘determining the importance’ of information in reading and are using this skill to summarise texts. They have been participating in guided reading sessions, novel studies, vocabulary activities and word work.

In writing, the children have shared some really interesting facts about their topics. They are well into planning their texts and will be writing their sizzling start this week using some of the techniques that we learnt throughout the unit such as “paint a word picture” to hold their readers' interest.

Maths

The work on Number & Algebra has continued this week. The children in Mrs Bridget’s maths groups have been learning about thousandths and how to convert numbers with thousandths into fractions. Eg, 0. 089     is    89 / 1000

Life Relationships

The children revisited the reproductive organs this week, looking at diagrams and watching videos. We answered the questions that were put forward by the children and had some really interesting discussions.
