Expression of interest welcome for the St Columba’s School Advisory Council 2022

As of January 2021, like all the Catholic parish and diocesan schools in the Melbourne Archdiocese, St Columba’s Primary is now under the guidance of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS).  As such every school has been asked to establish a School Advisory Council as a way of giving parents and guardians a chance to be involved in the school.

In many ways over the years, we have emphasized the importance of parents and guardians being involved in partnering with the school and the way this helps your children in their education.

Below are listed some of the ways a School Advisory Council can give advice to the Principal and Leadership in the school – there are many other areas as well.

  • The Religious Education program
  • Curriculum
  • Enrolments and enrolment policy
  • School resources
  • Improvements in the school
  • Annual Report to the school community
  • Family partnerships

I am excited by the idea of having a School Advisory Council and hope many of you will also see this as another chance to support your school and your children.

I am now calling on expressions of interest from within our community to become a member of the School Advisory Council in 2022. I invite you to nominate yourself in writing to me, dmaddalena@scelwood.catholic.edu.au, before the AGM which will be held on Tuesday 30 November 2021 7:00pm. Please provide any relevant information that would support your expressions of interest e.g. areas of particular interest and expertise. Closing date 19 November 2021

Classes for 2022

It is that time of year when we begin the process of planning all aspects of school life for 2022. Part of this planning involves placing children into grades for next year. We aim to provide each child with the best possible opportunities to be an active member of the class and to enable maximum learning to occur, while at the same time forming well-balanced classes that take into consideration the social, emotional, academic and physical characteristics of each child.

The staff will soon begin the process of placing children in their classes for 2022.  Although children are assigned a particular teacher, learning and responsibility is shared between all teachers within the level.

If you have a concern regarding the placement of your child for next year, you are invited to put your concerns to me, Daniella Maddalena, in writing by Friday 19th November. Concerns must relate to the individual needs of your child and not personal likes and dislikes. Please note: it is school policy not to consider personal requests for a teacher and it is important that you express your concerns to me rather than a classroom teacher.

We can now confirm that all Spartan School World stores will be open again for instore trading from Monday November 1st.

Children under 16 do not have to be vaccinated but must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult (unless an exemption applies).

Intentions 2022

Planning for 2022 is already underway. To assist in this process could you please inform me as soon as possible if your child will not be returning to St Columba’s in 2022.

School Uniform Term 4

All children are to wear their summer uniform and are required to wear their school hat during playtimes.

Whilst it is not mandatory for P-2 children to wear a mask indoors it is strongly recommended. Year 3-6 children will be required to wear a mask indoors on their return. The only exceptions will be if they have an official exemption or a disability which prevents them from wearing one. Parents of a child who meet the criteria for an exception must provide approval in writing for their child/ren to not wear a mask to the school.

Happy World Teachers’ Day

Good teachers are the reason why ordinary students dream to do extraordinary things.

Thank you to our wonderful St Columba’s Staff. We love you!
