Instrumental Music Program

Staying connected with online rehearsals

Despite the disruptive nature of this year, NHS music students have persistently kept rehearsing over teams throughout lockdowns. While it’s often hard to stay motivated to practice at home, online rehearsals have been integral in keeping music students connected and are a great mental break from school and home.

Rehearsing online has allowed some ensembles to focus on aspects of the rehearsal process that they wouldn’t normally target at school. Senior Strings students have been studying the historical context and musicality of the pieces that they’re learning, in order to improve their understanding of the music and playing as a group. Harmony Vocals have been working on strengthening every part of the music, and each student is being individually challenged to hold their part against others.

It’s in times like these that we sometimes lose sight of the things we love, so it’s really uplifting to see so many students continually brought together by music. We hope that we will be able to come together in person later this year to celebrate and share our hard work.
